They are still out there. The Trump disciples. Festering away like a pus-filled boil ready to explode.

This is a Trumpist member of the House of Representatives.
https://mobile.twitter.com/mtgreenee/status/1476226398540816390

You might remember her. She's the one who, after the failed coup, refused to go through a metal detector at the Capitol that was used to stop guns getting inside.

Here she's supporting a right wing nut job who says that Liberals are like cancer and should be stopped from voting and have punitive taxes if they move to Republican areas.

It's really happening isn't it? The Republican party truly is sliding into fascism.

There was a minute's silence in the US Congress today for the law enforcement officers who were killed in the coup attempt on this day last year.

2 Republican Congress members attended.

America is going into a very, very dark place.

Trump is a fool and should be nowhere near politics, but the whole thing was a farce today it was far to political rather than just remembering the people who died a shame really

Add to that Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, Afghanistan for different reasons, but the world seems a much scarier place than it has since back in the 60’s.

Anyone interested in how American right wing politics got to where it now is must listen to The Coming Storm by the brilliant BBC journalist Gabriel Gatehouse.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m001324r

This is what happens when people accept an alternative reality and are impervious to objective truth.

What happened last year was disgusting but I truely believe Biden and his lot are not doing a great job and in the USA Trump still has a lot of support

Biden and the democrats are afraid of him and this is driving their actions

Syd, why didn’t you ask bst in reply number two, why America is going into a very dark place and in what way.

But I can engage on the forum.
You asked Phil a question then I asked you one.
That how we go about things in the UK.
Now will you answer my question?

So you can’t say why you didn’t ask him to enlarge on what he said then, but you did ask Phil.
Says a lot really.
Oh, and you still resort to insults.

Looking at the results of the last US election - without the Covid crisis I'd have to say Trump would have had a better than evens chance of a second term.

The next 3 years are very important for the Democrats and US politics as if things go badly particularly economically and Trump stands again he will be favourite to win (perversely of course favourite to win the election NOT the popular vote).

Amazing or frightening to think that if Trump is eligible to stand at the next election he will probably win

Listen to the podcast I posted the link to

25% of Republican voters think the world is run by a satanic paedophile network.

53% of Republicans believe Trump won in 2020 and The Establishment stole the election.

There's a very big proportion of right wing Americans have gone fully down the rabbit hole.

How is any sane, serious politician supposed to engage with them?

I have never suggested anything like that or told people that they can’t comment (it is a forum).
I think it is reasonable to ask you why you didn’t challenge bst in the same why that you challenged Phil.

That's one of your problems hound, you have an agenda, I didn't challenge anyone, I asked phil a question is all, anyway why should I ask bb anything and end up in the alice rabbit hole of mindless dribble?

Sydney the Biden administration is attacking Trump every chance they get because they are afraid of the support he has throughout that country

A lot of Americans believe a lot of the nonsense that is circulated

It’s a bit like being on this forum with all the nonsensical tripe people come out with just to cause argument

And because they aren’t exactly exiting the American public themselves they are attempting to deflect away from themselves

I think you're right about Biden but I wouldn't say it's rabbits in the headlights stuff, it will be a strategy to expose his weaknesses. trump makes stupid comments and mistakes but as we know is very dangerous. The democrats are obviously held back by Manchin.

The Republican leadership are beyond belief.

They refused to impeach a man (sic) who incited a coup attempt and in so doing they have normalised and embraced the whole QAnon cesspit.

I try not to look at American politics these days. Because, frankly, the Republican Party scares the living bejaysus out of me.

They've just announced a policy stance that the attempted coup last year was "a legitimate political discourse."

Just absorb that thought.

Violent insurrection, intended to scare Congress into cancelling Biden's election and keeping Trump in power is "legitimate political discourse."

Someone mentioned Gabriel Gatehouse's podcast The Coming Storm a few days back. It truly is a chilling study of how far into fascism the Republican party has slid.

the walls are closing in

''Donald Trump’s longtime accountancy firm cut ties with his business last week, saying that nearly a decade’s worth of Trump’s filings should “no longer be relied upon”.

The move comes amid ongoing criminal and civil investigations into whether Trump illegally inflated the value of his assets''

I mean isn't that them stating they've done a pretty poor job? It's their job to verify the company's financial records at the point in time not years and years later.

The value of the properties isn't in the company records, though. They're supposed to be based on independent valuations which are the responsibility of the company to be undertaken, so the accountants had to accept what Trump's companies told them. The properties were deliberately overvalued when used to borrow from banks, and deliberately undervalued on tax returns. Usually at the same time.

And here it is .....

''But the attorney general's investigation found two separate, professional appraisers valued the lots at fractions of the price put forward in the financial statement. A March 2016 appraisal valued the property at $56 million, but Trump's subsequent financial statement disguised what would have been an 80 percent loss (from $291 million to $56 million) by moving the property into a different category, where nothing was itemized, according to the investigation''
