It’s all about ‘gambling’ on that first word. I reckon you have to be ‘brave’ enough not to throw in 3 or 4 vowels in the hope of notching up some letters. Often enough an odd vowel has sent me off on ‘wild goose chase’!

I don't gamble on first word using same one every time (one day I will get a 1 Lol)

Today I was lucky getting 2 amber from my word
2nd row still 2 amber so then that was 2 places each of those letters couldn't go
3rd row moved them again and found a word that looked ok and bang 5

No clues in any of what I posted as others like to play later (work etc)

I’ve changed my approach too. I used to use my first 2 guesses to use all the vowels but that lead to getting it in 4 or 5 guesses.
Now I pick a different word every day, and like DonnyWolf, I will get a 1, one day!

I found I had accidently changed my tactic because I started playing Quordle as well as Wordle.

In Quordle you have to get 4 words within  9 goes. The tactic is to use words to get as many letters into the first three goes as possible. Then start picking off the possibilities.

In Wordle it's best to be focussed straight away. It meant I was taking longer because I was trying to use more letters than focussing on getting right to the word.

Quordle is pretty good though.

Also in Wordle I usually start with audio to get the vowels in there. The journalist John Crace has convinced me it's not worth being so competitive and to try starting with different words and just enjoy the game for what it is

I think whoever decides the word of the day, knows that a lot of folk use their 1st 2 guesses to eliminate/find vowels, and picks the word with that in mind. ( Although after getting today’s word It may be a computer picking the word).
To me, using all the vowels is a Good tactic if you want to get it in 4 or 5 goes.
 I want to get it in 1, so have changed tack from using ‘pious’ every 1st go, followed by ‘tread’, to picking a random word with at least 2 vowels in and reassessing from there.
It’s a new tactic but it’s working for me. (Currently).
