I have to say I don't get rugby, either code. Didn't like playing it at school, don't really understand the rules.

The beauty of real football is its simplicity, the only complicated bit is the offside rule but I don't think there is a simpler solution.. That allows the game to flow and allows the players far more room for creativity.

Old fashioned cotton rugby jerseys are cool though.

However I am a closet Catalans Dragons fan as my Great Niece was their Mascot a few Seasons back when they played in England. They won first time out in Challenge Cup Comp and Players demanded she do the next game and she carried on even being being named on Sky as they continued winning

They were saying she was the reason they were winning but maybe a Leeds player who dropped the ball at 16 -17 [i think] when diving in to score in last minute at Headingley had a huge effect too

Wife was laughing as it would have meant me going to Old Trafford. I would have risked it but Catalans got to Semis and lost maybe to St Helens '[will check}

Her parents then were recruited by New York RL who were going to do what Toronto Wolfpack did but pandemic did for that[/i]

Just to add, I've often thought though, somewhere lurking between Union, league, gridiron and similar codes, there is probably a truly global game waiting to get out.

If they simplify it and do something about the concussion issue.

We are home to Wigan in the quarter final of The Challenge Cup tomorrow which is live on the beeb and before the City v Liverpool game .

Trinity have a really talented young team this season who play a really attacking brand of RL which is highly entertaining .

Whether we can get past serial winners in Wigan tomorrow is debatable but we live in hope .

We've not made the Challenge Cup final since 1979 and not won it since 1963 .

To say we are overdue is an understatement , we are bloody desperate .

It's had a number of names over the years as is the case in this day and age with sponsorship .

It will always be Belle Vue to us Trinity supporters however .

Thankfully the ground is finally getting redeveloped with work beginning this month on a new main stand and once that's complete the opposite side will receive a brand new stand .

We average just over 5k Bob which doesn't tell the whole story .

The state of Belle Vue is well documented in the RL world and today's punter expects better which is massively detrimental .

Put it this way , if we'd ever have got relegated from Super League they'd never have allowed us back in with the criteria needed to host SL RL .

The club is more than capable of pulling in 10k plus given a modern stadium and some success .

A real RL sleeping giant if ever there was one .

Played Union all my life and for years in the army, but just to old these days. Big fan of league mind, its become a totally different sport with some amazing athletes taking part.

Been to watch Castleford a few times and always had a good time

You were doing well there until you mentioned Cas German .

We loath one another , six miles apart .

Saints v Wigan , Hull v Hull KR , Leeds v Bradford have the publicity on Sky Sports but a Wakefield v Cas game is every much as intense .

I absolutely loath em .

I can’t remember who did the commentary but there’s a really funny one, Wigan are the away team, I think it’s Castleford at home

Total accident. On of my mates, ended up being best man at my wedding was from Castleford. Had a banging night out in Cas Vegas and the rest as they say is history.

Any fellow Rugby League lovers on here ?

I used to follow the Dons everywhere, Tyke. In our one and only season in the top tier in 1994, our first game was St Helens away. On a scorching hot day at Knowsley Road, most of us were hoping that we wouldn't lose by more than 30 points.

We couldn't believe what we then witnessed, with the Dons winning 29-20, and Jamie Bloem having an absolute blinder. Maybe it was the anabolic steroids.

I'll never forget that day.

Bentley was great on match days in those days. One particular Friday night game comes to mind, I think it might have been the first home game after beating St Helens. Under the recently installed floodlights, Sky TV lorries and cables and cameras everywhere, it was quite surreal for us Bentley folk!

Dave Varey.... Always liked Dave Varey. And who was that big, good ex Hull (might have been KR) player who ended up at Tattersfield in the late 70s/early 80s? He could hardly move but he put it about a lot as a kind of rush forward!

Tony Banham. Now passed on to a greater rugby field.

Thank you Steve. That's  the guy. Tough lad he was. A lot of tough lads in those sides back then. I always wondered how Stewart Piper fitted in...

Later: just found this. Lot of memories here:

And a few names to remember. For me George Pflaster and Alan Lowndes.

Another name you'll remember, Bob; my old mate Marra Towle, who lived across the road from me.

Sadly passed away about 8 years ago.

Alan Lowndes was a friend of mine, a former Thorne Grammar School colleague.
He died a few years ago too.

Just seen that George Pflaster has a twitter account, but there's been nothing added since 2014.

Found this too, from Stewart Piper:

No Hound! Tell me that's not true.

After Alan finished playing RL he ended up working at the school where my Dad was head. Although I was only a teenager at the time, my memories of him are clear as crystal. I think, though I might have imagined this, he played in the RL Cup Final for Cas. I can't remember if Cas won. He was always a good bloke to chat with. Jonathan will remember him too. His Dad was at the same school.

EDIT: Just checked. Alan got two RL Cup Winners medals playing on the wing for Cas. 1969 and 1970.

I can't use YouTube these days. I keep wondering if I've got a virus cos every time I go there the page is immediately covered in a bemusing, mind boggling plethora of stupid adverts. I can't even find the channels I've subscribed to never mind one old RL clip. I've about given up on the stupid thing.
