Others I fear, far more crudely will just want to 'send the buggers back'.

Another Tweet I just found ... There are some clever folk on there ,(and me of course)

Replacing Polish and Lithuanian workers with Indians and Africans was always an inevitable consequence of Brexit.

Anyone else pulling up popcorn and a comfortable chair to watch the reaction of 17.4m racists when the penny drops?

I don't think it was inevitable but it appears to have been Johnsons plan all along.

Exactly the attitude that drives ppl from agreeing with you Wolfie, blithely labelling everyone who voted leave as a racist. Almost like you are too immature to accept ppl had varying reasons for voting that way

Er yeah,

That's what he seems to be saying.

If we replace East Europeans with nothing to offer with Indians with something to offer our country will be far better off.

Hang on.
I thought the problem with the East Europeans was that they were taking our jobs?

I thought we needed the Eastern Europeans to do the jobs that our people don’t want to do.

If you look back I long since realised that no matter what side of the B****t divide people were on they were liable (largely) to remain there

So I made a decision to abstain from posting anything as I knew a mere me would not change the views of people on the other side or the issue and in fact I mostly stopped reading most of the Posts on Off topic because I knew I would never change my mind by something I read on here .... and besides after a few initial posts each topic (whatever the subject matter) seems to degenerate to 2 factions having a go at each other .

So I largely avoided writing or contributing but recently I was drawn in but the words I posted lately have been directly taken from Twitter (e.g. in bold above rather than from my own viewpoint)

It was immature of me to let myself down but don't worry I have been chastened now and won't darken your Threads again

Don't worry Wolf.

One of the defining characteristics of Brexit is that those who voted - irrespective of the side they supported - are very unlikely to change their views. Even though the main standard bearers for the 'project' (Farage, Banks etc) and the EU have long since lost interest.

The only one who senses that Brexit is a gift that will keep on giving and keep him in power is Johnson who now sees the Leave camp as his new constituency. Unfortunately, as is his nature, Johnson will keep stringing along Leave supporters with platitudes and headlines but nothing of any great substance. This is what Lord Frost realised before packing in. The penny's also dropped for Steve Baker.

One of the problems, I guess, of having a PM who never really believed in Brexit as a crusade but as a means of levering himself into the top job.

You thought wrong then.

So go on then. Who are the Eastern European who were coming over here with nothing to offer?

First of all, you said you thought East Europeans were taking our jobs. When you explain that, I'll answer your question.

Off you trot. I've more important  things to do than indulge your childish need to argue. You started this off by implying that East Europeans came over here with nothing to offer. If you don't want to substantiate that, that's your choice. Mine is to ignore you.

Nay Mr Wigerly, me thinks you'll find it's once again Billy boy arguing the toss. Like I've said before, he always throws a hand grenade at me and I merely remove the pin and chuck it back.

Isn't UK entry now points based?

I think they are implementing that but I'm not sure if it's done yet.

The Indian proposal is to allow a lot more Visas, reduce costs and make the rules easier for Indians to enter the UK as part of a free trade deal.

In other words, giving Indians preferential treatment.

Perhaps other areas could remove some barriers and the UK might remove this one to them too?

The whole thing is doing exactly what Brexit does, gives the UK the control - what the government of the time does with that is a seperate matter.

The UK can do trade deals with who it likes and that could include an understanding on immigration.

But Brexit promised a fair points based system and the UK would pick and choose who came in.

This Indian trade deal gives Indians preferential treatment, in the same way EU citizens used to have preferential treatment. That's not what was expected.
Didn't EU citizens use to have preferential treatment simply because they were EU citizens and not because they qualified in any other way?

EU citizens were not “preferred” re visas as they never needed them, like we never needed them when we went there. Neither was it ever a binary choice of whether the UK took immigrants from the EU or elsewhere; where have you that impression?

What do you mean by “preferential treatment”.

If you honestly believe you or others

"Preferred" is favoured while preferential is of or relating to the showing or giving of preference.

Are the 5 million from the EU that are to get settled status preferred or preferential?

Getting preferential treatment requires proof of eligibility.
