One former player or staff member that’s passed away, to help the club/side who would it be and why?.

Laurie Sheffield.

Back in the '60s, my brother and I and a few friends were watching Rovers training on the wasteland behind the Kop end at Belle Vue, where Asda is now. King Alick was there, along with Laurie Sheffield and the rest of the first team. The language was a bit strong, to say the least, and Sheffield said to his teammates "steady on lads, there are kids here". The rest of the players responded and toned their language down immediately. They clearly showed their respect for Sheffield by such a collective response.

That has left an impression to this day of what a decent, stand out and highly respected bloke he was.

If he was still with us he would be a great mentor to the players, and a go-to figure for those with issues to discuss.

Oh, and when he's not doing that, maybe he could teach them how to head a  ball and generally how to frighten the living daylights out of the opposition's defence.

He could win a match on his own.
Other than that Billy Bremner and/or Ian Snodin, haven't seen anybody with as much passion for the club and a will to win before or since.

He played in an era of s***e playing surfaces, big, hard, ‘break your leg’ defenders yet still was not only a ‘fox in the box’ but fed on balls played into spaces he could run on to.

He was, in my opinion, our version of James Vardy.

I don't have to think, Laurie Sheffield without any doubts. Laurie was a 100% player he gave is all, loyal and of course a prolific striker.
A lovely man who always had time for the supporters sadly no longer with us.
