So current Govt suggestions for how to motivate the cost of living crisis.

1) Only MoT your car every 2 years.
2) Eat Lidl Own Brand
3) Stay on the bus all day to keep warm.
4) Everyone get a better job.

Anyone get the impression there's not a lot of detailed thinking going on among these intellectual giants in the Cabinet?

Let's do this a bit at a time. What is "only most your car" supposed to say?

The cost of living crisis is already hammering the poorest disproportionately.

If the crisis is expected to be a temporary, passing problem, we can protect these people by upping benefits, borrowing to do so and paying it back over 20 years when the economy is firing.

If it's not a temporary problem the only way we can help the worst hit people is by taxing the better off (including businesses) harder and giving higher benefits to the poorest.

This Govt shows absolutely no sign of understanding that. The headline policies (Council Tax rebate, 2 year MoTs) won't even touch the most vulnerable but will help the better off. Everything else they've suggested us either embarrassingly patronising or stupid.

Must be all the roadkill I'm eating. Still, it's cheaper than an extortionate foodbank.

Very insensitive thing for a gov minister to say, if they wanted to forment a feeling of detachment and no hope for the people at the bottom then this type of thing will underpin it.

We all appreciate that the world is going through a perfect storm of cyclical high inflation, economic under performance coupled with a war in Europe, times are hard for some with the prospect of further economic pain down the line. Responsible government at this point would be to keep its own council whilst it completed reviews of how to best deal with the situation.

Crass comment like this is not what's required to a complex situation.

So, if everyone follows this advice and gets a better job, who is going to do all the lower paid but essential jobs?

I got the impression that she expected the same people to be doing these menial tasks as part of their "five a day" as in five jobs to make up the difference.

Not clever.

Can you post a link to where the government suggested stay on the bus all day to keep warm.
Or is that another fib by you.
