Andy Williams
« on June 15, 2022, 09:48:57 pm by Campsall rover »
On the move again.
Released by Cheltenham Town and has signed for Walsall today.
36 yrs old in August. Can still do a job I reckon at League 2 level.

Not suggesting we should have tried to get him back though.

Walsall have done a lot of business already I have noticed. Both in and out.

Just hope we find that striker we so badly need. Notice Marquis has not gone anywhere yet. I know it doesn’t always work bringing a player back but I would definitely have him back again. He would score 15/20 in League 2 surely.
Given the service of course.

The only trouble is with that is we all know he would score the winning goal against us when we play them.

We need to employ players with a long term view, like in mind if we get out of L2 they need to be able to carry on the following season at a higher level, that’s been our big mistake in the past signing players with the hope they can do well for either 6 months or 12 months, so JM is past it

Good to see AW is still going. He's a decent forward IMO. I'll never forget his classy statement he put out when we let him go, after a turbulent season for himself having been transfer listed and struggling with injuries.

Been an excellent pro in the lower divisions.  Very honest player, always gave 100%
Not the most technically gifted player i have seen but he was always in the right place at the right time and given good service in the box was a goalscorer.

Regarding Hiwula, I think we can all recognise he wasn’t good last year, if he ends up staying we as supporters need to get behind him and try and get his confidence up rather than shoot him down the first chance people get

Both Hiwula and Dodoo along with Clayton, Barlow and Griffiths will be getting a pre season with a strength and conditioning coach unlike last season. Fitness levels were appalling last season which probably led to a lot of the injuries. I’m expecting the level of fitness to be far superior this season and therefore the number of injuries reduced

Agree re Marquis Camps, most of the defenders didn't break a sweat against us last year - you always know you've been in a game with John, he looks awful to play against! Plus I think he'd get the fans going again, big personality winding up the oppo and getting us lot singing.

Reg I agree that when he was at Donny J Marquis was brilliant and like you say he was always a handful

If you look at his overall scoring record apart from us it’s actually not that great

It would be nice to see him back but it could be a risk and he would take up,a lot of the budget I’d suggest

2009–2016   Millwall   52   (5)
2010   → Staines Town (loan)   7   (6)
2013   → Portsmouth (loan)   5   (1)
2013   → Torquay United (loan)   5   (3)
2014   → Northampton Town (loan)   7   (0)
2014   → Northampton Town (loan)   7   (2)
2014   → Cheltenham Town (loan)   13   (1)
2015   → Gillingham (loan)   21   (8)
2015–2016   → Leyton Orient (loan)   13   (0)
2016   → Northampton Town (loan)   15   (6)
2016–2019   Doncaster Rovers   134   (61)
2019–2022   Portsmouth   93   (28)
2022–   Lincoln City   20   (5)

He scored nearly half of his goals for us in League Two. All his Portsmouth goals were in League One.

Yep, that’s all true. My point was that his record for us in League One is not that much different from his record for Portsmouth in League One, so his form at this level was relatively consistent across both clubs.

If you read the chain from the top, there was a point made that his overall scoring record apart from with us was not that great.

Actually as I pointed out, his League One record at Rovers was not that much different to his League One record at Portsmouth. So he had a decent record with us and Portsmouth at the same level.

He was actually contracted to Millwall throughout the loans, but he obviously didn’t get much of a chance there. I was wondering whether it was Kenny Jackett that overlooked him at Millwall but had him back at Pompey, but it wasn’t! However in researching I discovered that Millwall had 15 managers, some of the joint managers in only 7 years between 2000 and 2007!

But therein lies the problem you chose to say half his goals for us were scorrd in Div 2, if you were making the point you say you were then surely you would have said the opposite?

Is it not a matter of goals to game ratio I.e. it looks better with us than Pompey because of L2 season. So on 3 seasons half his goals came from one season in L2. I think that’s what CBCB is trying to get across anyway

He is but starts it all off in a negative manner. Anyone reading it would say he was being disparaging about JMs service to us

We signed Andy Williams on this day in 2015 after scoring 21 goals in 45 games the previous season.

We started last season with 10 new signings in the starting line up. That went well. :(
