Tom Anderson injured again

Injured again, his foot injury has flared up again. Knoyle will miss the start of the season. Barlow has injured his ankle and will miss a few weeks.

Taylor it did seem was making good progress. Close it sounded reading between the lines that he is struggling to get back to match fitness.

Taylor and Rowe going good. Close is running and non technical drills. Barlow was a tackle at Cantley Park. Knoyles back for the Lincoln game. Anderson is same problem but different area of foot.

I said I thought giving Tom a contract could prove to be a big mistake. Certainly a sentimental decision because there are plenty of players out there that could bring what he brings to the team.

I have just had my season ticket delivered to my house by RoShaun Williams and George Miller.
Great lads they are too, happy to stay a while and have a chat about football.
I mentioned Toms injury and they are of the opinion that it isn’t anywhere near as serious as it was last season.

Great to hear on both counts!

I once had a call from Gary Woods to thank me for buying my season ticket, but half way through the call he dropped the phone!

When you have major injuries we all know ,that sometimes you get little setbacks , on the way back to full fitness.

He did say it was a niggle in a different area of his foot though so let’s see what the specialist says. We do have Younger to fill in who I do like.

Also, the part where McSheffrey talks about Close really makes the last physio sound terrible.

Shows we need another centre back. Back line looks significantly weaker at Bradford without him and Knoyle

Every time I suggest that we need another CB, I get shot down. Our defence is basically the same one as last season, especially if Tom is out again.

This is the defence that hadn't a clue how to defend basic crosses into the box last season. If it's not strengthened, it will be our downfall IMO.

Totally agree the defence as not changed and we still haven’t got a solid left back. We need a centre half not to cover to start. We need a left back to start. Then we have others to start or cover.

I’d rather have kept John than Anderson

If we'd given them both the same opportunity to prove their fitness, I think that opinion would've been proven correct. Personally I think they were our two best CBs, completely ruined by injuries.

lest we forget the season before last the same "centre half curse struck Liverpool "

they even had to get a Turkish centre half on loan fom Germany plus a lanky centre half from Preston

perhaps their physio was a twin brother of ours last season

another thing we have in common with Liverpool is they lost 6 consecutive home league matches that season -- we also at least equaled that feat last season :scarf: :scarf:

We do need a centre back. The defence isn’t going to improve enough without an addition centrally and at left back. It’s about closing gaps that the opposition exposed time and again last season.
We need a mid range to very experienced centre back, an organiser, someone who can point as good as James Harper, who is still playing at forty one years old for Ascot United.
We need a left back comfortable on the ball, decent defensively and can occupy the opposition going forward.

In terms of numbers in the squad we don't need another centre half. But point taken about quality they were all pretty poor last season. I'd argue that a majority of defending is coaching and organisation and that this is what we lacked last season. The individual defenders aren't that bad.

On John v Anderson without knowing the details on Johns injury he would be the player to keep. We let him go because Anderson already had a contract and John was the only player out of contract in a squad with 5 senior centre halves. If we had a situation where Williams or Younger were out of contract as well as John i think we'd have tried to keep John letting the other go.

The new physio has a job on his hands. I think his first job should be to perform an exorcism on the treatment room.

I think either of you could have done better last season than that lot at the back for us.

Also, did you know that Will Peters is back in Donny after living in the USA for more than 30 years? He's now become a Rovers regular fan, and even attends away games.

No I didn't, lost all contact with anyone in Donny for many years now since moving round with my job. Last time I was up at the co-op club about 20 years ago, Lozza was Secretary and Davy Roberts was in there with his Missus, neither of us recognised each other and had to introduced. Wouldbe nice if there was any reunions to get back up there and meet some old friends

In that case, Raven, you might be surprised to hear how many of our ex-players have now passed away. Norman Jennings, Marra Towle, Woody Gething, and Paul Storer.

This is why we need another centre back, because of injuries and because we need improvement in there.
