Big fire in the local woods near me been going since 1.30 still not under control

In fact, there are fires cropping up everywhere now. From Kent to Pembrokeshire. London to South York’s.
Fires in Sheffield, Barnsley and Doncaster included.

Wildfire in Hatfield this afternoon too.
Apparently, an electrical supply unit exploded near to Roger Tubys place on the old Blaxton Road.
A neighbour told me one of his barns was burnt through.
The fire then swept across three or four fields behind Back Field Lane before being contained.
One house on BF Lane was very fortunate not to catch fire.
The power was off for about five hours.

Started in a compost heap that became overheated apparently.

The smallest thing can spark a fire when everything is so tinder dry, a shard of broken glas reflecting the sunlight for instance.

4-5  years ago on a sunny day, a bedroom in the house next door to us caught fire.

When the fire brigade had dealt with it, they reckoned it was due to an ornamental glass globe on a table focussing sunlight on the curtains and setting them on fire.

(Amazing service by the fire brigade that day by the way. They were at the scene within 4-5 mins of being called, and has wrapped up and left within 30 mins.

Yes .... On Peat Moors glass bottles were a no no for that reason. There were still some huge fires out there though .... almost impossible to extinguish as well

I worked on Thorne moors for a few months in the mid eighties between jobs. Peat moor fires are terrifying as they burn underground.

i was thinking about all the "mileage" the tv stations and press got out of the misfortune of the people of Wennington (as in one minute East London  next minute Greater London then the next minute Essex)

and thought it would be good if someone started some type of crowd funding for the people who literally lost everything ( not everyone will have insurance) and asked for a very very major contribution from Sky News the tv stations and the press who showed  their heartache
