That’s good news about Sinclair What a total wxxker. I hope people give him the same long lasting career changing grief other people get for similar thingsTo say what he’s said he’s a toolI hope he never works again. What a disrespectful cxxt
30 odd years ago I was waiting to cross a busy main road around Southwark way. The traffic was moving albeit very slowly. A green Jaguar car crawled past as I was trying to squeeze in between the cars. I looked into the car and noticed it was the Queen driving it!! I shit you not! The Queen was driving in crawling traffic as I was waiting to step out onto the road!! Absolutely unbelievable! There were 2 blokes in the car with her who I’d assume we’re bodyguards but it was definitely her! It still seems surreal even all these years later!
The situation we have today is that there won’t be many left when the last Monarch died, media availability for most was the wireless or the newspaper, expsure to news today is saturation compared to then
Last night of the Proms cancelled. Never did owt for me, but I can't think of a more apt way to celebrate the traditions that the Queen represented than by thousands of peoe dressed in Union Jacks singing songs about the glory of Britain's past.Meanwhile, while songs and weather forecasts won't happen, the rail unions' response is that train journeys that weren't going to happen should now happen, cos they've called off their strike. It does feel like everyone is falling over themselves to be seen to be doing something. For fear of being accused of not doing something.

Our greatest ever monarch. RIP.Is the funeral expected to be on Monday 19th? I’m sure 2 consecutive weekends without football isn’t what she’d have wanted.
I think the relationship between Parliament and Monarchy is important in stopping tyrannical leaders taking hold.
Tyke, why wasn't it planted in your head then?
For the first, and I suspect last, time in my life I'm genuinely upset (not just saddened) by the death of someone I never met.I'm surprised at my reaction to be honest and have been trying to rationalise it to myself. The Queen was not just an exemplary constitutional monarch but more importantly she reinvented the monarchy for the modern age.Her Grandfather and Great-Grandfather were active in UK political life in a way which would be totally unacceptable in a modern, mature democracy. The Queen not only deliberately kept herself above politics but her discretion and supreme diplomacy meant in 70+ years of being Head of State and continuously meeting people she never betrayed her personal political beliefs. On the very odd occasion she did intervene (e.g. Scottish referendum) it was well judged and suitably subtle.By reinventing the monarchy as wholly apolitical she has enhanced our democracy and ensured the chief politician is just an MP - not a President who would be much more difficult to remove from office on misbehaving or getting completely out of step with the electorate - see our last 2 PMs.An apolitical constitutional monarch can IMO opinion therefore be a blessing to democracy. The Queen certainly was thanks to all her much discussed virtues but she's the gold standard. That's why she's such a loss and also such a difficult act to follow.

Again, shame on you.The other side to this is that the country has been put in to mourning for the next 10 days for a 96 year old woman who hardly anyone of us has met , spoken to or even watched getting interviewed .Nobody really knows that much about her .She's shook thousands of hands and had a million small talk conversations I'll give you that but nobody knows her other than her family and even then it's debatable .The powers that be have told you she's a nice lady , she might be but neither you or I know that for sure .This thing is planted in your head when you are at school , the bloody national anthem celebrates royalty not the country .It's a masterclass in psychology and propaganda .That said it's not actually her fault , she was born in to it and to be fair did a remarkable job of what ever the point of it all is which I have an opinion on too but not now .It's not a job I'd have wanted so fair play to her .

I've actually read this thread back a few times now and i hold my hands up. I've been an arsehole. It isn't about me. It is about the Queen and how best people wish to respect her life and her memory and pretty much nothing i've said on here contributes to that so yep, not good from my side it has to be said. I do have some respect for the Queen and as a human being. After all, who wouldn't and whilst i'm not a monarchist and believe that the priveleges the Royals enjoy is wrong, many people have their own particular reasons for wanting to pay tributes and respects and who am i to judge them and make unnecessary comments?Oddly enough, i've hit somewhat of a lightbulb moment where, totally unrelated to the Queen, i have seen the division that is occuring amongst society at the moment where two polar opposites are at it like cats and dogs. Mostly played out in the media and social media and whichever side you lean towards it is worth seeing the reality that each side has their own agenda to push which is creating societal polarity and division. I guess BST in another post to me about GB News etc said something along those lines and whilst i do have a lot of the opinions that they hold on GB news, i have 100% become more angry and intolerant of pretty much everyone since Covid and since watching GB news and listening to Talk Radio. I'm not going to suddenly start reading Gary Lineker's tweets every day or tune in to BBC religiously but i can actually see where this division is skewing my thinking, making me defensive and having a detrimental impact on my health. I know Arthur Schopenhaur was a famous misanthropist philosopher and he's one of the few people i relate to but even he said that despite of all the horrors of humanity, the only answer and the only way out of that is compassion. Compassion for others regardless of their views or actions is the only solution. I've just got to find it first. It must be around here somewhere as i had it before the Covid pandemic and since that it has been lost. It seems like society changes so quick and it is difficult to adapt to that and especially with thinking and i guess it feels safer to stick with what you know. Or what you think you know and when things change around you and you stand still, you get left behind and stuck with older ways of thinking and outdated views. As a poster said yesterday who was particularly critical of my archaic views.
Did she ever do a gloveless handshake with the peasants of her Realm?
