We are Carolans now rather than Elizabethans I believe

It depends what regnal name he chooses. There's a suspicion that we might be Georgians.

Confirmed King Charles III

Surely it should be Charles I?

We’ve had 1 and 2, 1 was executed, 2 was the restoration after Cromwell

A wonderful monarch who was highly respected and adored all over the world. She made many of us proud to be British. God love her.

Yeah but which country were I and II the kings of?

Presumably just England I think Billy in those times before the union came about .

So technically it should be King Charles 1

I always thought she should have been Elizabeth I. Our country has only existed since 1921.

Correct, but it's very important how you read that.

They weren't Kings of "England, Scotland & Ireland".

They were Kings of England, Kings of Scotland and Kings of Ireland. Three entirely different, independent countries.

They happened to be the 1st and 2nd of all three countries with that name.

We've never had a King Charles of the UK. So by logic, this one should be Charles I.

Aye but we had a shared monarchy with Scotland from 1603 , just looked it up .

Just my opinion mind but if we are to continue with Royalty it wouldn't be the worst shout to have skipped Charles and gone with William and Kate .

Younger and a bit more relevant to modernise this thing .

Charles 1 and Charles 11 were Kings of England (as well as Scotland and Ireland), so I imagine the new King is called Charles 111 because he is the third King of England (and the rest of the UK) called Charles.

Putin has had his say

“ Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent his condolences to King Charles after the "irreparable loss" of Queen Elizabeth II.
In a message to the King, Mr Putin said the Queen "rightfully enjoyed the love and respect of her subjects, as well as authority on the world stage".
He added: "I wish you courage and resilience in the face of this difficult, irreparable loss.
"May I ask you to pass on sincere condolences and support to members of the Royal Family and the entire people of Great Britain."

I find this astonishing.

The PM when the Queen ascended the throne was born in 1874.

The PM when she died was born in 1975.

An old lady who lived in a nice, warm palace for 70 years. Wonder how many of the Great British public will be showing as much outpouring of grief when thousands of similarly elderly folk perish in their own homes this winter?

That said, of all the monarchy - the Queen is the only person i have a modicum of respect for. The rest should have died first in all fairness.

There isn't one.

There is Billy as soon as the King or Queen passes the title immediately passed to the next in line irrelevant of waiting for the Coronation Hence the Royal Standard is never flown at half mast   "The Queen is dead Long live the King "

She wasn't born to be Queen but she devoted her entire adult life to this public service and barely put a foot wrong.

Whatever you think of monarchy, this has been an extraordinary thing.

It will be interesting to see how the monarchy adapts, if it can.

Can't argue with that. As i said, despite my hatred of the monarchy - i can't argue with the sense of duty and decorum that the Queen has shown throughout all these years and she is the only one of them who deserves some respect and gratitude. Although her death means nothing to me at all in emotional terms, i for once can appreciate how others will be affected by her passing, if you put aside those who want to tell you about their fake grief just to share on social media.

No. There isn't.

There hasn't been a King of England since the 1600s.

Correction. Since 1702.
