It is now evident more than ever that Clayton and Tomlin can’t be in the same XI at the same time.

Rowe is similar age to both but he is far fitter and more mobile.

But McSheffrey should have seen this coming. League 2 isn’t what is used to be.

Tomlin reminds me of the ageing Cristiano Ronaldo. Still had ability and output but was actually a net negative to the team over all. What he doesn’t bring outweighs what he brings in other words.

I’ve obviously been massively anti Tomlin since he signed, so people may thing I’m being blinkered, and I may be!! But I honestly think that’s the way it’s starting to play out as well. Genuinely home I’m wrong as we have hung out hat on him.

I’ve really enjoyed watching Tomlin in most of the games this season. The things he can do with the ball are the things most of us enjoy watching football for. I can see your argument here though. That’s not to say I necessarily agree or think you’re right, or that I know what the solution is, but I can see your point as it does totally alter the press and the shape.

Yes Miller running around 'looking' busy yesterday was our press.

Wonder how Tomlin would fare as a 2 with Miller playing just off him 4 4 2 ?

Wouldn’t solve any problems. The midfield 2 would get dominated.

Yes sorry I meant the 2 centre mids. I can’t really see a combination there that would work in that formation.

If he’s any good, we haven’t seen much of him form an opinion of him really

Clayton is going backwards for me, each performance this year has been worse than the last - I thought he started the season well, our biggest leader and his delivery was excellent. He looks very very leggy now though and can't get around, and his delivery on Saturday was awful - either overhit crosses in to the box or a gentle dinked cross straight in to the keepers hands. Maybe needs a rest, and try a change in the middle?

I wasn't that impressed with the glimpses I saw last year, to be fair he was playing in a very poor team. Maybe fit and in League 2 he might look good, don't really think he possesses the athleticism we're missing though.

Agree the jury's out on Close. Also don't think 'playing in a poor team' is reasonable mitigation for any of them last year, we should be saying 'contributed to a poor team' really.

Agree but as a snooker fan I always wanted to watch Ronnie O'sullivan, (&still do, moreso). The genius & the flawed, I always savour the former but maybe it's sweeter cos the latter is never far away.

Certainly can't have more than one in a football team.

The Northampton pen was a penalty, can’t believe people think he dived.
Even their manager said it was a clear penalty after watching the replay

I agree Dickos - definitely a 'modern' pen anyway - Tomlin got between the defender and the ball and got a little nudge and went down. VAR would give that all day in the Prem.

No chance when Lee Mason is in charge of VAR. That useless bugger never gave us anything.
