A sugar hit to the economy may produce a temporary boost of activity but without any substantial measures to boost productivity in the medium to long term it is very likely the only growth that will be sustained is inflation.

The markets will decide if Austerity+ is the right way forward or not, they have already fired warning shots across bow of the govt, the next volley may take out truss.

Yes, I'm struggling to see how severe cuts to services and benefits, and allowing developers to build all over greenbelt is going to encourage business to make long term investments to improve productivity. We've had a productivity problem in this country for decades, there never is a serious effort to address it. This looks like another quick fix doomed to fail.

The supply side reform this country desperately needs right now is cheaper energy and unfortunately there are no quick fixes to that conundrum.
