Last nights game Holland v Argentina was a lesson for all the watchers of football and the obsession of tactics in a game.
Both sides were the modern play it through the thirds, short passing and more the technical approach, that is until time was running out at 2-0 to Argentina and Holland threw on the big lads and put the ball in the mixer on the edge of the box with the long ball game.
Result mayhem and Argentina all at sea because of their stature not being able to win an ariel battle and two quick fire goals to go to extra time.
Then Holland returned to type for some reason, stopped using the bomb into the box and went back to tippy tappy and allowed Argentina to compose themselves and dominate extra time in which Argentina deserved to win, more fool Holland, they could have won that, and at the same time nullified the Argentina tactics of the tactical foul in midfield breaking play up.

Hope I'm wrong but not expecting positives from today.

Think it will be the same until DS can get some of his own players in. Scrape for every possible point, won't be pretty or edge of your seat stuff.

Looks like Rowe is playing centre back with Ro-Shaun in a back four. Anderson and Olowu out and Faulkner on bench. No word on Long.

Schofield doesn't think Faulkner is any good then. This could be a shambles today. Watching our best attacking midfielder play lcb and Seaman pretend to be a footballer.

Prove us wrong please.

Seems like illness preventing Anderson and Olowu playing any part.

Hands forced a bit but I guess the formation doesn't fill us with confidence, although on paper it could work. Newport won't be playing on paper mind so me thinks our back 3 plus 2 wing backs will have their hands full.

Once again, disappointing Hurst is missing out while we're forced to play Rowe defensively. Concerns again that we will find  it difficult to get the ball up the pitch and keep it up there for long enough to create chances.

It's going to be a long afternoon trying to defend a Point.

Longs on the bench per DFP.

If we don't start picking some results up Faulkner will be at the Rovers a lot longer than Schofield who looks to be trying to fit some players in the team at the expense of a balanced side to me.
Rowe is a decent player, past his best, but never a better central defender than Faulkner, and starting playing central defender at his age reminds me of the second half at Morecambe, but pleased to see we are playing the technical defenders with him alongside Williams.
I wonder if Omar is looking forward to this game.

Actually it is back three of Knoyle, Williams and Rowe.

Not sure Newport are up to much but that was a solid half from us. The defence looks organised and we've had most of the play. Only problem continues to be Miller being totally isolated and largely a passenger.

Still don’t understand Rowe as a CB
Knoyle also.

Faulkner and Long on bench.
Doesn’t make sense to me.

Having said that we should be winning.
Newport looked very poor 1st half.
Got to start taking chances.
We have had 3 that should have been buried.

Better than the last 2 games. Newport are pretty useless to be fair, but this could have easily been Colchester all over again playing badly. Fair play. Miller is doing better with the ball and keeping hold of it. Bad finish when clean through looked hesitant.

Williams has to be the worst header of a ball for a centre back I have ever seen in league football.
Not won one 50/50 all match
And misses ones also when under no pressure.
Unbelievable.

A good win, but we made hard work of it by not taking our chances against a team that didn't look all that.
They hardly put us under any pressure, but when the ball was in our area we didn't look comfortable at all.
You can only beat what is in front of you, let's hope we really can take something from the game and go on a better run of results.

We face a situation where the club’s professional coach seemingly fails to play all his best players and those he does choose he puts in positions where they are less effective. Furthermore the formations that he goes for do not encourage us to believe that he is making the best use of the talent that is there. On top of that he does not give the impression that he is instilling the necessary drive and determination into the team.

There are so many questions that need answers and seemingly a lack of expectation that we will ever get them.

DRFC is certainly not carrying the fans along with it right now. Please can we have something to encourage us!

That should answer one or two questions then.

Yes, of course we would like some consistency but, given the enforced changes today, that's a good result.

Totally agree. Very good performance today.

Close and Biggins were given room to work, something other teams have not let us have and have pinned us back early in the games.
Today for the first time for a long time we had time on the ball and played some decent football,
Hopefully we can gain some confidence from the result and push on, against other teams we might not get that room or time to work in.

As nice as the win is, Newport looked down on their luck and very average. So hard to judge if we looked good because we were, or because they were not up to it - 3 points though.

Close and Clayton did well today, really good passes in areas that hurt them. A word for C Seaman, I like the lad and feel he has got a future for us, and the wing back role suits him well.

Give him a bit of credit today, he managed the whole game without costing us a goal, a rare achievment

Well done Rovers, much needed win. Since there was hardly any racing today down to the weather i had a" tounge in cheek double" on Rovers and England to win which will pay just short of 20 quid. Hope i dont put the knockers on England !! Come on England

Good away win in cold weather that is particularly with a bit of disruption in the side.  Shows just how inconsistent we are.
