Contact extensions
« on January 13, 2023, 10:05:49 pm by Sod This For a Laugh »
Today we learned that we offered a contract extension to KK in December. I assume we offered other players we wanted to keep extensions around the same time. I have not heard of any extensions being accepted does this mean the likes of Tom Anderson an Joseph Olowu have also rejected contracts

I’m not sure offering them contract extensions would be the best course of action.

Seriously you think Tom Anderson would pen a new contract given the dogs abuse he’s had from so called fans?

It read to me that KK informed the club in December that he wouldn’t be signing - I’ve not seen anything that says we actually got as far as offering a contract

Would imagine he’s on decent money too. I’d be open to letting all the 1st team defenders go (Olowu & Maxwell apart). Looking at our record you’d hope we back ourselves to get more for our money in the market.

Something players need a change too. Probably best for all parties

This seems about right. We’ve seen enough of all our defenders the last two seasons to know that we need a fresh start. It’s obviously not working with the current personnel and conceding goals now seems to be an accepted norm, given the paucity of clean sheets even in this very poor bottom division. Fresh start would suit all parties.

With Nelson now arrived. Will either Anderson or Olowu(just about recovered) be leaving before the end of transfer window if they haven’t accepted a contract extension if offered.
Could Long although contracted be leaving.

As with Knoyle, any other interested club would be liable to pay a fee.

All depends  if they want to run their contract down to the end of the season.

Previous posters have already covered this.

Olowu back in contention for the first team, apparently.

Sorry, I get your drift now. I thought you were just meaning their own contractual situation.

Irrespective of Nelsons arrival, I wouldn't be surprised if neither Olowu and Anderson sign extensions.

Both I would imagine believe they could play at at least League One level. They may take the option of waiting to see where we finish the season before even considering staying. Who knows whether Anderson was affected by the boo boys or whether he made his intentions clear when we triggered the clause in his contract  He's been here some time now so might want a fresh start.

That all said, he's had his injury concerns and if I were the club, I don't think I'd be offering improved terms, just an extension of his current terms.

With Olowu, he's one I think we might offer some improved terms given his potential but as said, I think he's likely to keep his options open.

Of course, we don't know if there's been any enquiries that made the club act if we were to lose any of 'em.

I hope we see them all available for the rest of season.

If you were a player playing at Rovers currently, would you sign an extension?

If you were rovers currently, would you over pay any players that are out of contract in the summer?

Depends how green your grass is. I don't think we're in such a poor position as you infer.

I wasn't inferring anything. Was an open question. Just curious to see what others thought.

Depends whether you’re talking about our present status or what state we’ll be in, come summer, DBR.
There are an awful lot of players o.o.c. In the summer and that means we’ve to find replacements, if they all decide to leave. You’d like to think we’d be trying to get some serious upgrades on most of them and that will cost.

The merry go round of players in and out has to stop at some point, as all it’s doing is pushing us further and further down the pyramid.

I get your drift Alan bit it will never stop. That's just football. As I've always said, amongst other things it's in the agents and players interests to keep them moving.

If clubs are on the up, then they're looking for upgrades, if you're on a downward trend, the bigger fishes will pick off your better players. Either way, the revolving door keeps moving, it's just a question of how quickly.

It can't be a easy thing to manage however, as said above, we have a better chance with a HoF in place, rather than leaving it to a n other manager.
