Preston North End have completed the signing of Doncaster Rovers captain Ben Whiteman.

It has been the transfer rumour on every PNE fans' lips but the deal is finally over the line and the midfielder has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal at Deepdale.

3.5 minu 2 = 1.5 years to go unless he has signed a new contract

Big if he were to be sold in this transfer window how much do our experts think the fee would be ?

Been a steep downward slope for us after selling him. I get it was to fund covid costs but imagine if it had been invested well in the playing squad.

Key point is invested well because we have made some poor signings since Fergie left really. Whether that’s lack of funds I’m no so sure.

Be a bonus if they sell him and we get a couple 100k

McCann recruited well. Kane and Wilks on loan made a massive difference, Downing was decent and Sadlier was good. Crawford was ok. Maybe Paul Taylor the only one that didn’t work out.

Fergi left us with a very good squad.

Most were loans though. What he left us with was worse than he started with imo after the loans went back

To fund covid costs?
Nothing to do with Ben wanting to leave then?

I mean how the funds were used. So obvious a player would want to leave for a good championship club it’s not worth mentioning. Don’t think anyone’s got a problem that he was sold. It’s what’s done with the money that matters

Ben has been out presumably injured for the last few games.
Preston have lost all games without him. I think that’s correct. They are on an awful run & losing 0-3 at home to Norwich as I post.

Coincidence or not?

He needs to be sold this summer, while his contract is still long enough to demand a decent fee.

Seen a rumour couple of days ago saying that Watford wanted to sign him and Ben Sheaf this month. A Preston fan replied to the tweet saying he would want £7.5m minimum for Whiteman.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I seem to remember our sell on clause being 20% with Sheff Utd getting 10% of what we receive. If it was £7.5m for him then we would receive £1.5m minus 150k what we would give to the blades. Still a very good value if he is sold this month.

Pretty sure Sheff u got their sell-on % when we sold Whiteman to Preston.

Think with most sell-ons it relates to profit rather than the sale itself so if he went for, say, £5m we’d get whatever the %age is of £5m less what we sold him for.

I’m sure when we signed it was said that they get a percentage of his next 2 transfers.

He needs to move on. Wasting his best years at Preston. And give us the money.
