If i was the manager ( ) I would have come to a gentlemans agreement that he didn't play against us

I'd say the opposite, its obvious they way we want to play had AC surplus to requirements, If we had to play against a team with AC sat deep in midfield then we should be licking our lips at the prospect, as a fast and fluid attacking setup should be AC's worst nightmare really.

Been a good servant in his short time with us, had a good and calming influence on some of the younger players and did not shirk his responsibilities, now for us to get a younger and quicker AC to replace him would be paramount.

Under no circumstances should we be looking to bring a development player in for his replacement, we need the best quality we can get to go straight into the side. Any sort of injury to Biggins or Close has us down to the bare bones.

If someone like the young Ben Whiteman as he was when he came on loan, signed, I don't think many would be moaning. Well, some would of course before seeing what talent he had.

It was interesting to note that when Whiteman first came to us on loan it was mainly as a more attacking midfielder, that we saw fit to play him in  a position that suited his skillset better was good work for all involved.

Its a shame that we don't seem to have anyone in the club who could be converted into that type of a player.

A younger TR would be idea for our current situation, im wondering if his time left with the club is now drawing closer than originally envisaged.

We complain when we can’t get rid of surplus players and now we complain we are moving them on or moving them out too quickly.

Until someone goes you cannot budget for someone else with certainty. I’m prepared to credit management with the sense to have a replacement in mind - and when all is said and done you would expect someone who can compete for a 1st team place, rather than someone with limited ability which is what Clayton became.

Who is complaining we are moving them on or too fast?Only thing I've seen alot of is the disappointment KK has left.

Clayton’s comments on departure are great to read. Humble and respectful of our club, which is in keeping with the attitude he showed during his time here. Far classier than Knoyle who took the opportunity to stir the pot.

When he comes back with bradford I hope he gets a good reception from the fans here. Was an excellent servant during his time here. Hope he has a nightmare of a game and we run rings round him all the same.

Hope that his departure though doesn't have a negative effect on team morale, he did seem a popular dressing room figure.

I have to say I was made up with the news today when I found out. A great pro I have no doubt, but just not a player suited to a style we want/need to see. If we could have 22 pro’s like him, we would have a great team ethos, and a real team spirit.

I wish him all the best and thank him for trying to steady the ship during a torrid time at the club, but time for us to move on.

Credit for the club getting him out the door without a pay off!

Agreed 100%. Clayton comes across as a true professional and a decent man. No hard feelings from me, even if I think  overall he was a poor signing.

He showed in the early weeks of the season that he could be a potent player in the QB position if we could fashion a game plan that made space for him. But we couldn't consistently.

That's not really Clayton's fault. It's just not worked out. Good luck to a good pro with the rest of his career.

From the stands he seems like a great pro & a good influence on the younger members of the squad.
On the field, other than brief glimpses, we're a better team without him.
Thanks Adam & good luck, apart from when you play us.

Clayton Close never worked as a midfield two. Not robust enough, not fast enough, didn't win enough second balls. In a bygone era when they were both younger, or the game was slower and more technical it might have worked, but for the the turgid quick-sand head tennis league two it never worked and never would work.

Sounds like DS is keen to put his stamp on the team. At least everything was done in the open

Clayton has now had his say on the matter and I don’t think it’s gone quite how he thought. He did, at least, thank DS for his straight talking on the matter, as it left him in no doubt.

Yes, I guess it's how it's done. Wellens didn't seem to get the desired results with Bogle and Williams.

Impressed with DS on how he's handled this. Clinical but with class. Respectful in public to a pro.

I imagine its because Schofield has treated Clayton like a grown up, and it's been sorted in house without any press leaks. It bodes well.

The way the manager wants to play doesn’t suit Clayton’s game. Bradford’s style of play is more suited to his game, I think they’ve got a decent signing. Let’s just hope it’s not filling the side with youth loans.

We do need a bit of experience as well. Decisive management, knows how he wants to play, now to get the players to implement that.

Listening to that U tube clip it seems Clayton is not what they need. He said they need someone with energy.

Same as us it would seem. I think it is a strange signing for them.  Any way not our concern.
We now need 2 midfielders in the door as we are woefully short in that area.
Also need a striker as well.

Hughes will be thinking he’s ideal for them, with the knowledge he’s picked up during his career.
He won’t give you energy though as you’ve said. If that’s what they are expecting he won’t fit them.

I think Danny has been quite shrewd in moving people out now. He’s looked at it and seen the side is just short of breaking into the promotion places. He’s changed it now, so if it works and his signings get us in to those places, then he gets praise for doing a good job. If we fail he will have a decent excuse for just dropping short, and the criticism will be lessened.

I think there are a few more worth fixing up with other clubs. They’ve had time to perform and haven’t done it. We have no space for carrying players, every one has to contribute if we are going to do well.

Adam Clayton was a great guy and a very good senior team member, he used his experience and leadership traits well, and that will be the benefit to Bradford, he will give them what they “may" need in the dressing room.

If they are looking at energy then unfortunately for them and Adam, his legs have gone, at his prime he was far too good for this level. Listening to him, his mind has not caught up with the fact just yet. It’s sad in a way to watch someone who is clearly passionate about the game and playing, but his body just can’t do it.

I wish him all the best, he never let us down, and as others have said, was a great pro.

Agreed, I reckon he could maybe still do a job at this level with the right players around him. Doesn't fit in with our new formation , where we can often get exposed in midfield.
Wish him all the best in the future, except for the return leg.
