Charlie Lakin

Proving to be a really good signing, he can play but also looks like he likes getting his foot in when required - his tenacity certainly played a part in getting more football out of Ben Close which can only be a good thing. I look at Close & think there’s a player in there & he’s better than he’s shown us. I know he’s susceptible to the odd muscle pull & has a liking for the treatment table but with Lakin doing the spade work he could develop a really effective partnership with Close, then throw In Biggins into the equation and we’ve got a really solid midfield duo.

If you listen to the Facebook & Twitter doomsayers our recruitment has been appalling but I like to rely on the evidence of my eyes and hope Copps and Co have unearthed some gems which I believe he has.

That's what it's all about. Having a little faith in someone who's had vastly more experience in comparison to us mere mortals. Being able to spot potential in players is really valuable rather than going on reputation alone. Sometimes it takes players a little while to adjust to their new surroundings and we're seeing good performances from Hurst, Maxwell, now Brown, Lakin and Nelson who've settled in no time. Hopefully Molyneux now joining the party.

Would agree with your assessment of Close too. The midfield partnerships are so important and it's not easy to find the right blend. Occasionally, Biggins goes missing leaving Close too much to do however, Lakin seems to be a better partner for him.

There has been plenty of posters on here saying that we needed some steel in midfield and, I agree, Lakin appears to be providing that missing element. One word of warning, though, he’s not our player and that should be to the forefront of everyone’s mind. The fact that it’s taken us this long to get someone that can just about hang onto Whiteman’s shirt tails, so to speak, is bordering on dereliction of duty. Let’s hope the lad keeps doing it, without Burton taking too much notice.

he’s not our player yet but I think he will be next season, same with Brown and possibly Todd Miller.

Would we be able to offer Todd Miller an attractive enough wage to bring him in.
He won’t be on ten bob a week just now.

can’t see him being on too much money at Brighton, they won’t be spending massive wages, I’d guess he’s on 2-4K a week. I reckon it all depends on if he still thinks he has a future at Brighton or wants to leave for regular game time.
