Amazing isn’t it how some journalists are considered to be brilliant but others who aren’t agreeable to the author are dismissed as gobshites.
Almost as if………….

Assuming BST's recollection of the journalist's racist comments are correct, I don't get your point.  I understand you don't like BST from disagreements over a period of time, but that doesn't mean you can never agree with him, does it?

In this particular case your dislike of BST, and your need to show that, detracts from the debate over this journalist and his credentials don't you think?

I'm not defending BST by the way, I just don't see the need for you to have a pop.

I often agree with points raised by bst mate.
I show it by clicking the like option on some of his posts (so that’s nice).
I don’t know whether I like bst or not because I have never met him, but I do dislike the condescending way he treats other posters and uses put downs and (sometimes obsceneties) against them on a regular basis.
My point about the journalist was to emphasise when he quotes one he often uses the term “respected” or “brilliant”  to back up his opinion but when others quote anyone he goes into put down mode.
BST is probably a decent bloke but his attitude on here isn’t.
He also chooses to ignore posters who he doesn’t agree with.

Note to TT, I had never heard of this Starkey bloke until yesterday so I don’t have any opinions on his writings.

Well, the fact is, I haven’t.
Maybe because I have never seen or heard GB News.

I’ve never seen GB news either.
Starkey was a mainstay of the BBC History output for years.

That’s right Tommy he is a very well respected historian, just because BST vilifies him increases his kudos, Billy and yourself will dislike him because he uses recent history to lay the blame fairly and squarely on Blair’s New Labour ‘rubbing the noses of the right in diversity! ‘ he also critiques for being an authoritarian who will champion the Rights of the minorities exclusively!
New Labour being the party of the Entitled, over privileged Public civil servants.

Starkey:

''During the 2011 Conservative Party Conference he spoke at a fringe meeting, declaring Mayor Boris Johnson to be a "jester-despot" and the Prime Minister, David Cameron, as having "absolutely no strategy" for running the country. He urged the party to re-engage with the working class rather than the "Guardian-reading middle class".[41] In 2015 he claimed that while Cameron and his Chancellor, George Osborne, had introduced some meaningful reforms to education and welfare policies, they had not made large enough cuts to the UK's budget deficit''

Most people would say that sounds quite perceptive.

So what started as a thread about DSA has gone completely off topic - might as well shut this thread down

Wasn't Starkey one of those involved in the holocaust/genocide debate a few years back?

I think if you read the whole wiki article about Starkey, then you’d come to the same conclusion BST and me did.

Good question BB.
This thread seems to have drifted away from what it was intended to be about.

Amazing Fact:

David Starkey is the brother of the late jockey Greville Starkey who rode the great Dancing Brave and was famous for barking like a dog at his mounts to make them go faster.
His other brother Richard Starkey achieved very little.
David inherited Grevilles fortune and is using part of it to help fund the reopening of Doncaster Airport.

Not such an amazing fact:
Richard Starkey was the real name of Ringo Star.

We so need that tongue in cheek emoji on here.
I’m surprised that you didn’t spot that too.
I would think that most people over the age of 40would know that (about Ringo).

Tommy, if it makes you happy I will go with that.
I’m not sure what part of my post you see as being ridiculous though.
Just in case you didn’t understand, my reference to the tongue in cheek emoji was that my post about Ringo could have done with the aforesaid emoji.
Anyway, no need to reply, I’m sure people don’t  want to read another spat between posters.

I have to say, good comeback, but not correct.
As for the game, I’m really looking forward to it.
Let’s hope we both come away happy.

I’ve just looked at this again differently, and realised that you may have just been pointing out who Richard Starkey was.
If so I unreservedly apologise.
It was the …not much of an interesting fact .. bit that threw me.
Sorry.

I think if you read the whole wiki article about Starkey, then you’d come to the same conclusion BST and me did.

It also covers a police investigation into what he said, which didn't go anywhere but if he said those same things now ........

Why would it be different now Syd, has the law changed? is free speech no longer tolerated by the woke elite and its followers?
It is the politics of hate that has invaded our education system and thrown up gob shites who have their followers and are the main reason for the demise of the country as a tolerant population and meaningfully caused splits in the community and the notion that closing free speech down is the right thing to do, but drives it underground and festers.
The left have used the same thing in Russia, East Germany, and most of the East European countries, using non entities like on this forum to do the work for them, the problem is it never works and causes division.
  Take a look at yourself.
