Their new chairman used to be chairman at Ilkeston.

Remember when our Chairman used to be Chairman of Bridlington Town? They are going down a similar path by the looks of it

This is the very sad but true point.  What's the point for clubs in running and academy at lower levels?  The costs outweigh the benefits in many cases.  It's a subjective point but would Rovers be better off without one?  Financially maybe we would, albeit there's been a bit more success selling young teenagers of late.

This is what their owner said;

"Keeping hold of the better players in the academy doesn't seem to happen. We lose the majority of them before the age where they can participate in first-team football.

"In 10 years we haven't had any players that we've had a sell on clause for, which in my eyes doesn't show a great deal of success."

Just a glimpse of the future for Rovers? Not enough support, get out of the ECO Power and get a cheaper ground to be "sustainable.

When you look at it like that, what's the chance we do a swap with the rugby club Doncaster Knights at Armthorpe Road. On current trajectory it would suit both clubs purposes better than the status quo.

From there we can eventually get back to Town Fields/Deaf School, our "spiritual home"

The grant from the FA towards the academy is bigger than the moneys spent on the academy, guess where the rest goes at most clubs, and this season u14s  going to Premiership clubs the fees paid for them is higher than the same number of any first team players would bring in probably with the exception of Faulkner who's value has been undermined by our thick management who couldn't market a dead pig, and Goodman who it remains to be seen how the dunderheads  market him.
I would say that the only part of the club that has potential and market value at the moment is the academy, and we seem to be doing our best as a club to undermine and p*ss off a number of excellent coaches and junior players parents are looking on wondering just what the hell is going off.
And from the comments above it seems that the great unknowing who never watch or take an interest in that side of the club would dispose of it and the young players at the drop of a hat. Be careful what you wish for the  Goodman's and Faulkner's and some good prospects following behind are at present your only bright spot in what is fast becoming a self inflicted sh** show to oblivion and what is being put forward without any knowledge how things work would only quicken the process up, while in the EFL the academy is a net contributor to this club and gets nothing from the first team or club Doncaster, in fact contributes to the full club  with little to no recognition for the coaches that run the academy or the lads that play for us.
The main reason very few get through to the first team is most of our managers Gary Mcsheffrey the exception didn't and have not until backed into a corner had the B**locks to give them a chance while pandering and pushing loan players no better from other clubs.

I think you're doing Andy Butler a disservice there! Yeah he didn't achieve anything else whilst in charge but he did give out opportunities

Yes he did, as Wellens did in a cup tie at Scunthorpe, Covid did for some good players Tom Howson especially, Will Hollins and a few others, Tom could well have been our first team right back now.

I'd gladly swap if they left the Caterers / Catering in place.

I don't get it , are they closing Gland-ford Park to save money but the Players they have next Season in Tier6 have to go to Ilkeston to train

Is it at their own expense or will they get mileage ?

Or are they closing their Academy to fund the First Team to get back up ?

I tried reading Blast Furnace but couldn't get it to work well. AND it goes down as often as them

20 points less than us in the league below,
In absolute turmoil and soon to be playing in a part time league.
But yeah they’d beat us at a canter

I'm not saying they'd beat us, but haven't you noticed the absolute turmoil we're in?

Look at the amount of STs we're likely to shift. Yes, I've got mine, but that's because I'm daft.

Wolfie, because they have been out of the EFL for two years the academy grant stops, and because the academies are linked also to education it is too costly for clubs dropping out to run.
Notts County won the division but had to drop out two years ago hence us getting Goodman on board here, which was good work by Tony Cook and Kevan Wilds who did the spade work to get him here.
All tier three teams get a big grant for the academies and to be fair until 18 the government pay the lads wages as an educational grant, most teams, probably all channel some funds towards the first teams, some more than others. The academy at Doncaster certainly does not owe the senior teams anything this season in fact the reverse, especially this season with the returns from other clubs, Manchester United and Leeds taking players from the academy, and you can add Faulkner, Ravenhill, and now Goodman playing at senior level, and hopefully in future us getting added value in transfers if they are good enough to progress to other clubs. It is a fact that scouts from Premiership clubs now watch our junior teams an a regular basis most weekends so the club at that level so must be doing something right, but the guys responsible get very little recognition for their efforts and are slowly being poached by other clubs, Tony Cook at Peterborough one example.

They'll probably look to recruit players from the Midlands especially if they go part time.

I wouldn’t back us to score a goal. And if they can run about a bit we will give them a chance playing out from the back. Pretty even game.

To add to the above it is the latest fashion by the way with the biggest clubs in the world who no longer are that interested in the older academy age groups as far as scouting for talent is concerned the younger groups now being the main attractions.
For instance the world cup u15s has Real Madrid sorting out a reported deal for an u15s player from one of the South American Countries for £40 million their theory being by 18/19 years old they should be in the first team or there abouts.

Dickos you’re in denial.

You really can’t support what’s going on at present.

There is no one who has been more supportive of the board than me over the years, but come on we have the worst coach since Weaver was masquerading as a coach some 25 years ago.

He is turning some very decent footballers into ones who are not believing in themselves as individuals & confused and lacking in confidence at what they are supposed to be doing as a team.

To have a chairman who isn’t prepared to sack this coach after what we have witnessed in the last 5 months is alarming. What does it say about the ambition.
The fans will vote with their feet. No way are 6.000 Rovers fans going to put up with watching boring dross week after week.

The lack of action since this last and possibly the worst performance to date is setting alarm bells ringing very loudly.

Campsall, nothing in what you’ve just written has anything to do with my point about Scunthorpe.
People comparing us to what is happening there and even suggesting they would beat us is just pathetic.
Their situation is 100 times worse than what we’re going through and people are delusional if they think otherwise

Agreed. It's a real s**t show at the moment here at Rovers. Fans turning on the Team , Manager and the hierarchy

The football , like the "entertainment" is non existent and people project forwards looking how bad it might get and how we might do a Scunny next Season. It may get worse before it gets better but it may not.

Last Season some people had us doing a "Scunny" and getting relegated into Tier 5 and that didn't / hasn't happened

SO , while nobody can be happy with our lot as Fans , as a Club etc ....

... Right this minute , this hour we are absolutely nowhere near being in the same boat as Scunny. Their 3rd relegation in quick succession is almost "secured"  and they are going into Tier 6 along with a lot of ex League Clubs

They are flogging the "family silver" just to save money hoping for a quick return to Tier5 (still 1 below Rovers of course) and that may work it may not

A lot of them raltao when Richardson almost destroyed Rovers,  so though most people may think I am potty, I am sure a majority of their 3ks worth of Fans are looking at Rovers with our problems at the moment and wishing they could swap places with us as a Club and Fans because it could be a long long way back to League football for them

People are saying because we’re so poor that scunny would beat us at a canter.
Forgetting they’re in a far worse position that us, every scunny fan would swap for our situation in a heart beat

That's right, mate, but they were 6th tier when they beat us. If they can beat us, it's quite possible that Scunny could .

That was my point.

And even nearer to being down as they only have 5 games left not 6

Looked at 7 or 8 other teams and there are all playing 45 but there are 24 Clubs so should be 46

Am I missing something or missed something ?
