No shame yet then Syd, wait until the unemployment figures come out.

Quite correct when you look at Austerity the response to covid + Brexit, no shame whatsoever.

I mostly agree with your analysis. I took wish Labour had been able to put up direct taxes on higher earners, but they were boxed in by their own pre-election pledges.

I do understand why they made those pledges though, on IT and employees' NI. They had to neutralise the threat of being branded as a party that would increase direct taxation across the board.  That's a powerful electoral attack line and it's worked for the Tories previously.

Given that context, I don't see much alternative for a big tax take than Employers' NI.

It will be negated by the cost of the extended unemployment que and cost of that and his open house welcome to our foreign guests.
Stabber has just had his worst nightmare win in The USA, the Democrat helpers are coming back with their tails between their legs and Trump is nothing less than vindictive.
He is with the big boys now and way off it.

My memory of what has happened before is showing SYD, being anti British has never been in my thoughts, and I have never given up and moved abroad Syd when the going gets tough, but you probably know more about that sort of thing than I do running as far as you did.
Anyway I understand you have just had a bad night, Starmer has now to cow tail to someone who thinks rightly he is a little no mark, and your save the planet hopos have to contend with China and Australia upping coal production 25% next year and now Trump going for as much oil and gas as they can, while this country is under a cloud and in the doldrums literary the last few days.
 Have a nice day buddy.

Sorry Billy but I disagree with your reasoning and therefore conclusion. Several reasons: -

1) There was no political need to effectively promise not to increase IT and E'ees NI on those earning 6 figure salaries.
2) Promising not to raise NI, E'ee NI and VAT which account for 75% of the tax take is pretty foolish and has boxed the Government in (as you say)
3) IT and E'ee NI are simple taxes the economic outcomes of moving are easier to predict and manage. Increasing E'ers NI will discourage recruitment and therefore company and economic growth to some unknowable degree. The impact on consumer spending is difficult to estimate also. This choice could be much more economically damaging.
4) Labour have chosen to cut the starting E'er NI threshold (when companies start paying) significantly from £9k to £5k which explains why the poorest will be hit hardest when they easily could have organised the tax rise differently e.g. pay higher % above a certain £salary to raise the same amount.

I just thought I try out the line that you have used ad nauseam to see how the cap looks, of course it slipped down and covered your eyes, buddy.
