Personally I would love to have him back. Absolute legend in my eyes who would smash 30goals in L2 given the right service. Seems to be split opinion on here so thought I'd ask......

I hope he does, but very very much doubt he would come, based on league 2 plus wages way too high now

More important to spend the budget getting quality players in every position that compliment each other and have the right attributes to play the desired system.

There’s more sensible ways to make someone the clubs highest paid player. Charlie Austin didn’t exactly tear it up at Swindon.

This vote is totally hypothetical. I haven't asked about spending majority of budget on him.

The answer shouldn't be assumed or based on wages or cost.

Just simply would you want him back or not.

I genuinly can't believe that we have sat through that sh**e last season watching Miller isolated up front (either one) and people would say no to Billy?!?!?!

Madness to me.

Even Billy played in that system last season would of looked rubbish.

It makes sense to target the group of players that we need rather than blowing a big hole in the budget on one player, even an old favourite like Billy. It will be that important to have the whole team being better than its individual components.

There’s grabbing at straws & there’s grasping at straws.

I know we’re all anxious to see names come in but, behave yourself!

We have spoke about him returning several times but he's managed to prolong his career at the top perhaps longer than expected.

Assuming he's relatively fit, who wouldn't want Billy Sharp in our ranks with his sheer zest for the game, infectious enthusiasm and still scoring goals.

I always hoped he would give us one last season before retirement. He would create a buzz around the place.

I'd like to think he'd not be motivated by money but a wish to give something back to his second club, having achieved another promotion for his first love. Bonuses based on appearances and goals would be ideal.

Still believe we will need another physical presence up front .

Cant believe we have had 18 votes for No!

Who wouldn't want him back?!

Someone give me a good reason not to have him back other than money?!?!?!?!

Some discussions/debates can be for fun you know. Not everything has to be nailed on to discuss.....

Stranger things have  happened. Billy won't be motivated about money imo. He won't want to move house. He will sign for  a local side I think.

It wouldn’t surprise me at all to see Billy come back. It wouldn’t be for money at this stage of his career, I think he would be reasonably well off by now. The challenge of helping to drag us up the leagues would motivate him.

The only doubt is that Sheff Utd’s budget isn’t supposed to be the biggest and there is a chance that the decision to let him go might be reversed.

We can dream,Sammy!

If he has anything in common with Richard Wood, it’s probably his love of playing football and why not with a Club who loves him to bits? Who would you rather have come on from the bench, Agard or Sharp?

NO BRAINER!

I have memories of quite a few big name strikers coming to Rovers at the end of their careers and being terrible. I would hate to see that happen to Billy Sharp.

Lets find the next Billy Sharp/John Marquis rather than a past one.

Would score for fun in this division. And going up is the most important thing right now. So it’s a yes.

However I’d hope we use this one time cash injection to sign some players with resale value so we are secure for a few years

McCann said the other week there’s no point signing a top player if they don’t suit what we’re trying to do.

We’ve said for months and months we need a physical presence up top. McCann has said we will also be playing pressing football. Billy is neither big or quick.

He won’t win any headers in a 4-3-3.

Billy would bag goals in this league, just look at the games against Wrexham in Cup he was a step ahead.
Also when I have seen him play for Blades over last 2 or 3 years he looks fitter than when we had him on loan in championship.

If there was any chance we could ever bring him back then we would have to jump at the opportunity, I know TB has already pledged substantial funds, but I’m sure this would be grounds for extra investment on top of that.

It would help put more bums on seats too.

He might not play 38 games 90 minutes a week, but he would be such an asset to the team, a proven winner.

With the players we have that is definitely a possibility.

No problem playing wing backs as long as we have 3 in the middle of midfield.
Schofield should have done it with the players we had but  :headbang:  Need say no more.

Billy Sharpe with a Marquis type player up front with him ?   Yes please.
Get both of those 2 How many would they get in this league ?

Let's be real Sharp would be an outstanding signing even as a sub at times, he's unlikely to play every game he rarely has done that in a season even at his peak.

Any club would be stupid not to take him.  I feel he wouldn't want to drop to this level with us right now and there's surely other opportunities for him, even at 37 it would be a huge coup.

Its on the very unlikely list for me.

But in terms of our attack we only have Miller who's an out and out striker assuming Griffiths leaves.  For me we need a target man type, sharp type box striker and at least one more who can play wide.  Mccanns style will get the best out of molyneux, I think he'll be huge for us next year.

I'd love this to be true but surely a championship club will give him 20k a week for a year if Sheff United don't decide to give him a short term contract and a final shot at the Prem off the bench.

It's like asking hypothetically who would like Alick Jeffrey back, only in Sharp's case it is a possibility.

No brainer.

Was wondering this, as we now have 5 center backs in Wood, Anderson, Olowu, Faulkner and Long, with Younger on trial to potentially signing. Either one or two of that lot could go out on loan otherwise we're a bit overloaded to play only 2 at the back.

Word for work what I was going to say, his value would stretch way beyond the pitch. We also need some big moments for the crowd this year, so heart over head decisions to get us jumping again. One of the loudest I've heard the Keepmoat is when Billy came back from injury and was being about to be subbed on (vs Crystal Palace???) and the roar and atmosphere was incredible. Bring me a few moments like that back and I'll be happy.

Billy is perhaps my all time favourite Rovers player but - even ignoring wages - no I wouldnt have him back. He has been restricted to 5-10 minute cameos at end of a game for Sufc - we need someone who can last for 90 mins. Pity but those legs have gone.

I don’t get why some ppl think it’s so unrealistic. He’s 37 years old and for the majority of his career he’s stayed local, if he’s going to carry on in England I can’t see him going to a club that’s not local so why not come to his second club with fans that adore him and where there’s a good chance of finishing with a promotion. I don’t think he will be motivated too much by money either.

And he has said previously that he would like to have another spell with us before he retires.
