LNER rail advice
« on June 09, 2023, 12:12:04 pm by Scooter »
I’m considering applying for a part time secondment where I work but it is in London.
The job is a great opportunity, the only downside is the cost of rail travel. Anyone either know of any cheaper hacks or if the club still do LNER discount?

From my experience of travelling between Donny and London, I’d recommend:

1. Look at buying 2 single tickets rather than a return ticket
2. It’s sometimes cheaper to buy a separate ticket between Donny and Peterborough then a ticket from Peterborough to London than one for the full journey length
3. Hull Trains can be cheaper than LNER but run a much reduced service.
4. Be as flexible as possible about when you’re travelling. You can save a tonne of cash by travelling off peak.
5. Sometimes travelling from Sheffield to London is cheaper than from Donny.

Hope these help a bit.

Book as far in advance as possible.

Can you ask the company to pay or contribute to the cost?
