Olowu, Biggins, Close, Anderson, Molyneux. Maxwell, Rowe and Taylor have a huge amount to prove this season. They were part of a Rovers squad that finished in the worst position in 20 years. They now appear to have a lot of support, a good management team, new blood, and a crowd that wants them to do well. So before any of them start playing in the championship let’s see some quality from them.

I was a guest in the ECO POWER box right in line with the penalty box great tackle, got the ball first then the player went over his leg. Ref gave penalty booked lawlor for protest then put his hand to his microphone ask lino,  he shook his head either no pen or the obvious one I don't know

Very good performance from Olowu. One of many tonight.

Strange how some folk celebrate a superb performance by laying into someone else, but if it makes them happy, then grand.

Fantastic effort from Olowu tonight, kept good control on strikers worth millions, mention to for Anderson, GM had said he was going to do 60 mins tonight but in that caldron he kept him going and Tom responded well considering his long lay off.

Lawlor, Olowu and Moly were outstanding, Anderson and Maxwell got better as the game went on, Broadbent, Bailey and Biggins ran themselves to water, Roberts also, Miller prospered from having players to support him and Sotona showed glimpses of what he can do. All round bloody good team performance, just a shame they didn’t do it at the weekend

He had a nightmare yesterday. It's not going to be spectacular performances that make him a good player, it's going to be boring consistency.

I’m a big fan of Olowu but I’ve made this comment on here before - if he makes a mistake early on he tends to have a mare. If he can get consistency into his game he will be a really good player

Seems to have everything - pace, ball skills, energy, stamina, attitude, commitment.  But the mistakes just keep on coming and yesterday he was every bit as poor as he was good at Hull.

I agree with this. In terms of raw talent he has got the lot.

Unfortunately he lacks composure/panics too often in key moments leading to mistakes/terrible decision making which cost Rovers too many goals.

This fatal flaw in his game has cost Rovers 3 goals in 2 league games and lost us both matches. And will ultimately (unless he eradicates the problem which seems increasingly unlikely at 23 and 50+ appearances) kill any chance he has of fulfilling his obvious potential. Sadly.

His challenge in the Harrogate game may not have been a foul/penalty but putting in a sliding tackle in that situation was sheer naivety.

There's a good player in there, however he needs to gain consistency soon. His decision making, starting positioning and anticipation of the movement of the ball were particularly poor yesterday. I was also struck by just how much coaching he was receiving from Wood who was instructing him on the basics such as when to press the ball, when to drop off, when to compete for the first aerial ball etc.

He's 24 years old in a couple of months - it's not unfair to expect a more polished player at that age.

I suspect Woods would giving those instructions if he was playing Virgil VD. I think it is to keep himself on his toes as much as anyone else.

Agree, its also a learning phase for both as they settle into a partnership, yesterday was one of those days where everything that can go wrong just did, if you learn the lessons from it (and where talking coaches as well as players) then it will have value. A functioning midfield to assist the defence usually makes a big difference.

Wonder if he will play Tuesday or will grant give him a break just out of the firing line for a match, just sit and watch brief.

It likely wasn’t a penalty but he put himself in a position where Mr Magoo could make the decision he did. Olowu is clearly physically the right stuff and seems a very nice guy who wants to learn. The question will be whether he makes dumb decisions because we’ve been such a shitshow the last few seasons and ruined his early education but this will change, or whether there is just cotton wool between his ears full stop. Time will tell but fact he seems such a genuine and eager lad does give you some hope.

Think Newport probably strengthens this.

My biggest wish this Season is I never see the endless ‘there’s a player in there’ quotes. I see this as indicating that they are a really poor player who might have a couple of good moments on the occasions they get lucky. Aiden Barlow… a great 45 minutes in god knows how long, talk about clinging on in hope …. There’s a player in there you know.

Barlow has not played a minute this season yet for Eastleigh. Not in squad for their first game and then he was an unused sub for their second game.

I'll put decent money on Olowu never playing above the bottom end of L1.

I really do not get what people see in him. He's reasonably able, with a regular mistake in him.

If we stay in L2 his next move is likely to skip L1. I’m pretty much certain of that.

Possibly time to revisit this. See it now BST?

He had a good game again and got McGrath out of jail when Jetta skinned him for the only time in the game.
They are forming a really good partnership.

Top marks for your memory too….
