4 very soft goals.  I thought there were a few signs of decent positive play but not many.  We need to be much harder to beat than that.

Bailey was very good at right back against Hull.

Looks like the tests we'll face in the league will be entirely different to that game though.

Three games in a week with a long away trip the finish off didn’t help. Missed Bailey in the centre I think. Not having Molyneux at all.

Bailey is far better in the middle. In hindsight we should have gone Nixon right back and Bailey into the middle. Anderson over wood also after todays showing. But after midweek I think grant owed it to a lot of those to ‘go do it again’

Personally, don't think we can get away with both Broadbent and Biggins in midfield.

Were Newport that good or were we that bad?

True they got off to a ‘perfect start’ but, their pressing of the ball was what I hoped we would be doing, as I’m sure GM did.

Everything seemed ‘to fall’ for them however, they won their one on one’s, the players they’ve brought in on loan played as much a part of this win as their Carabou Cup win against Charlton.

We on the other hand couldn’t stop their ‘onslaught’ first half nor could we respond in kind of way.

Poor passes, poor defending, loss of possession no goal threat I could go on.

Please, please don’t anyone say these players already have an eye on the Everton game because as McCaan said, he would have swapped the Hull win for 3 league points….as I think so would we.

That result & performance ‘frightened’ me today and I don’t use that word lightly.

We still have a few imposters in the squad. Unless, we forget, Biggins, Close and Westbrooke were with us last season, so the options for midfield are, to say the least, limited. We’ve brought 2 lads in who have little to no EFL experience and Tommy who’s getting on in years. 2 loan positions left to fill and we simply have to get these 2 right. One needs to be a midfielder, without question.

Its early doors and in pre season i suggested we had got the recruitment seriously wrong. Harrogate didnt change my mind and then the Hull game i saw something that gave me genuine hope and excitement. Today has proven to me that the club is nowhere near where it needs to be to understand what it takes in this league. We need physical midfielders to compete, its just as simple as that. Win the physical battles, the league will never be pretty and then you have a chance. That first 20 minutes we dropped every basic b0llo0ck even at Sunday league standard. The spirit of the players was diabolical and already you can see inconsistency setting in. Thats 2 league games in, scored jack sh!t goals and beaten by 2 teams who will finish comfortably in the bottom half. Cue the "we are a new team" "knee jerk reaction" posts.

I hope that is the worst game Olowu has for us. He got in front of their on loan 18 year old striker & slipped giving him the chance to score that opener.

His distribution was that of a ‘typical’ centre back. He was ponderous on the ball often choosing to play it back to Lawlor (once his confidence had clearly gone) when he chose to play the ball forward the pass was poor or over hit.

Wood looked ponderous, no, he didn’t look ponderous he was ponderous.

The midfield, even after the second half changes, just couldn’t impose themselves.

The strikers may have well have stayed back in the hotel.

Apart from that, and a fire in my flat, it’s been a very nice day.

Bailey was arguably the worst player on the pitch vs. Harrogate. Or am I missing something?

We must've been bad if Bailey has been considered a decent performer last week. GK MOTM says it all.

This in spades. Our midfield is too young (Rowe aside), inexperienced, & lightweight. Sadly I think Rowe is struggling with the pace of the current game. While Broadbent & Bailey are promising players, their inexperience against strong, physical, more mature players will find them out. Both Westbrooke & Close could possibly improve us there but we are desperately short of a strong, physical, experienced midfielder. We have too many powder puff players around our midfield, & this league will walk all over them, game in, game out.

Of course it is rubbish. It is 3 games in 8 days and as far as I'm aware there are 7 days in a week.

He's referring to the fact that Hull made 8 changes to the team that started their first league game.

Very pedantic that. Saturday/Tuesday/Saturday  is 7 days which is equivalent to a week. The length of time is what matters not the Gregorian calendar

The fact that that schedule impacts performance is the issue really. Not the potential cliche referring to it as a week. I’d argue that the game starts with the travel and they traveled down yesterday.

so have I missed something, we played 3 times in a 7 day period?.  Its bobbins because if we play next Tuesdays as well does that mean we also play 3 times ynext week giving us the  outcome of playing  6
times in 2 weeks , which most certainly didn't happen?

You seem to be focusing on semantics mate. The point is the more games you play in less amount of days will have a knock on effect on performance especially when you factor in away fixtures etc. The fact that it’s a the start of a new week on a Sunday is irrelevant.

Did everyone not have a league cup tie during the week meaning every team played "3 times in a week"? Yes, we were away in 2 out of those three games but so were half the other teams in the league. It's not like it's coming towards the end of a grueling season either.
