Aye, one idiot nearly knocked my daughter off some stone steps which had a 50ft drop and didn't bat an eye lid

Just back from skiathos and wow Italians are rude. On a bus to skiathos Town I boarded a bus with my missus and a family of 6 occupied 6 double seats of a busy bus sat next to a guy who was using approximately 75% of the total space and who didn't respond to friendly hints to shove over. I smashed his left knee with enough force to make him yelp which was satisfying but hardly the point. Good luck in

I should mention that having lived in UK and Italy I feel safer in Italy and find Italians family friendly and welcoming at least in their own country.I would not feel the same if I were to wear AC Milan replica gear in Rome though.

Our main tip would be plan what you re doing round the weather. don't try and do too much outside in the mid day sun. It was roasting when we went.

We did tours of Colosseum and Vatican, me and the wife enjoyed them the kids were fed up by the end.

In Rome have a walk through Trastevere at night. Via del Politeama is closed to traffic loads of market stalls and outside restaurants. My teenagers tolerated the walk as there was plenty to do.

Also on more practical note if you have kids who are fed up of walking round in the heat, Big posh MacDonald's near Spanish Steps. Air con, free toilets, cheap food and drink. An oasis on a red hot day.

Even though its seriously hot do not buy the bottled water from street vendors, its usually from a tap in a toilet.
Take a walk off the tourist routes and there’s some fantastic pizzerias which are great value for money.

Why is it that whenever there's a discussion that involves anything about Italy that some feel the need to drag out all their own fantasy's about typical stereotypes?

It seems that rude and obnoxious people are not only found in Italy.

Quite pathetic and very wrong.

If you go into a cafe for a drink don’t sit down, it trebles the price!

It depends where you are. Avoid the tourist hotspots, look for somewhere the locals go.

I'm not sure I had a fantasy about my little girl being skittled down the acropolis embankment. I'm almost certain that was quite real.
Yes there are obnoxious Brits anywhere you go and I tend to give most people a wide birth.
The Greeks and Turks I find are some of the most polite and fun loving people. Unfortunately the Italians that I have come across have been extremely rude and lack any kind of patience.
Now, that doesn't mean that all Italians are like that, just my experience of them when abroad.
The Germans and French I've found just keep themselves to themselves but you may have a different view of them?

I've been to Bari and Bologna with work and enjoyed myself in both cities. Pleasant and kind people and top food.

For a traditional Italian meal you can't go past Da Sergio, we always seem to find the time to go there. Fish of the day is exactly that, what was bought in the morning.

Vicolo delle Grotte, 27, 00186 Roma RM, Italy
