What's this in relation to?

He's just coming back from injury isn't he?

I was a bit surprised today when I looked at the table to see who's turn it was to be top and saw they were top and decided we should all become Preston supporters hoping he signs an extension

Must add a word about Southampton they have suicidal to the extreme in the goals they give away as if allegedly "by design "

Would any sell on not expire with his current contract or do they just run forever?

Could it actually be Preston's year? Mrs is from there & her brother is a fan, they finish bang mud-table every year, never threaten either end, I've always said it must be boring following em.

I think I read that Russell Martin, the Southampton manager, is a fully paid up member of the process cult. I watched them v Leicester the other day. They insisted on tapping it out from the back and gave away chance after chance. Does it sound familiar? Their fans are up in arms apparently.

Southampton have got too much talent to be struggling for long. Either it’ll click under Martin or their owners will quickly lose patience.

At least I hope so, I’ve got them to go up along with Leicester & Ipswich!

Speaking of which, Leicester’s bench last night was insane for the Championship. A player with 150+ PL goals, 2 defenders with a dozen England caps between them, 3 players who they signed for £20m+ and another who they could probably sell for £20m+. If Maresca is any good they’ll walk the league this year.

And Rovers let him go for next to nothing and didn't reinvest the money, and we've been rick bottom of the efl for most of this season.

You reap what you sow,

He said himself that he could probably have left in several transfer windows before he finally went and he signed a new contract at DRFC to help the club get a good fee for him when he eventually left. The club reaped a good sum for him at the time.... and still have a possible payout to come if he moves on from Preston.

Good fee ? We practically gave him away, and what money we got, disappeared into the ether.

How did we come up with that valuation? Or did we just let him go at the price someone was willing to pay?

I saw a comment on twitter about him and another player both being (hopefully) tied down on a long term contract and that had me looking at Preston's league position - was suprised tbh.

For me he was the last of a decent bunch to go.

You reap what you sow,

i was totally astounded  when we managed to sign him   the sell on clause was 20 or 25%   United simply had a load of midfielders in front of him -- he had previously done the loan stint at 4th division Mansfield

i was also amazed we managed to sign Cameron John

Now be precise here, please advise me of the fee we got for him.
Genuine question, because I can’t remember.
I do possibly agree it wasn’t re invested however…. But those were the times I guess.

Gaz, he signed a contract extension with us to ensure we got a fee on the understanding that if a club came in for him we wouldn’t stand in his way. Unfortunately Preston were the only Club that did and he wanted to go there. We couldn’t turn round and say you can’t go it’s not enough as an agreement was in place. There were add ons which if Preston get promoted we will get some but unless he’s sold in January we will miss out on that.
Easy to have a go at the club but to be fair the players have the power and to also be fair Ben did right with the club.

No point trying to move to goal posts about transfer business in general. I don't need my memory jogging. Your the one making wild accusations as if they were fact. The information is out there. Do your research.

Btw. Preston weren't the only ones making a play for Whiteman. Barnsley had a couple of bids rejected as they fell short of the valuation. Only Preston met that requirement.

Spot on as usual Baz. DRFC had a couple of derisory bids from Barnsley as they knew he wanted away but he wasn’t keen and the bids were an attempt to get him on the cheap.

But when Preston came in that changed everything, Ben was extremely keen to go and made it well known to us that he’d played his last game for us.

£5m? Not sure what planet that was on, but not this one.
