Big Week
« on October 21, 2023, 06:02:46 pm by philsky »

I'm assuming that none of the wounded are lined up to be back on Tuesday or Saturday ?

Hopefully Close got cramp and Olowu was a precautionary withdrawal otherwise it's going to a really tough week for us, never mind the opposition.

Continual talk of players coming back from injury seems to be yielding very little actual positive news.

McCann is performing miracles but it's not sustainable in my opinion.

Are we allowed to source non-contracted players outside transfer windows ?

Close had fatigue and Olowu should be ok for Tuesday.

If we can get at least 4 points this week that will be a great return. Then hopefully we have some bodies returning that we can give some minutes in the fa cup game as they can back to full fitness.

Maybe I am greedy but I want 6 points from these next 2 home games.
If we get them then we could be in the top half of the league at 5.00 pm next Saturday.

We then have 2 games v Wimbledon A who have only won 1 home game and Walsall H on paper looks winnable followed be a very tough looking game Crewe A ( they are formidable at home, surprise team of season so far for me ) & Colchester H which again looks very winnable.

After a tough start to the season on paper we are now playing some of the weaker teams on paper.
We have a fantastic opportunity to put ourselves in to a very challenging position before Christmas.
Shouldn’t be looking too far ahead I know because it’s dangerous thing to do, so one game at a time has to be the mantra.
Let’s see off Salford on Tuesday.

First 7 games 2 points
Next 7 games 15 points
The next 7 will decide if we compete for a playoff place.
So big games indeed. Looking at the injury situation we need to be 2-0 up on 70 minutes to win a game, as understandably we have no fresh experienced legs to come on and we can only hang on in there.
Last night the lads succeeded… and why not again on Tuesday?

Salford like us have improved recently but have consistently been up there in this league in recent years. Will be a tough game, especially with a fatigued squad.

Out-of-form Grimsby should be a much easier game, especially if we have a few back by then.

Looks like they’ll be one short as defender Tilt sent off today. Quite generous all these teams getting players sent off the match before meeting us.

I’ll bet they don’t have 16 injured players, though!

We've just got to manage the players through the next few games the best we can. It's a big ask to expect the starting XI to put in 90 minutes without much back up., and continue to get results. The youth we had on the bench will have to play their part. Last thing anyone would want to do right now is recruit out of contract players and cause more problems further down the line.

This mini run has made up a little bit for lost time, so if we can just hold our ground until we get players back, then it won't be season defining.

In previous seasons, we've not been too far off but tailed off badly in January and February. Let's hope we can make the opposite happen this time round.

I'd be doing light training, focusing more on tactics and mentality.

Plus making the players take ice baths

No such thing as an easy game. Grimsby almost got a point at Stockport yesterday same as us.
They will have a big following at the Eco as they always do. It’s their local derby in this league.
Yes I fancy us to win it but easier than Salford, not necessarily it won’t be.

They're not pleasant, but work wonders for muscle recovery, reducing inflammation.
Alot of pro athletes take them regularly

Cryo therapy is also a good way to reduce swelling, it’s certainly used by sports physiotherapists more and more, less time required and can target specific areas

Crikey SS used to give us half an orange and told me he would be pulling me off at half time  :coat:

inflammation is needed for muscle repair. Stopping inflammation in the short term has long term affects on conditioning. Essentially fighting the bodies natural response.

SS had long retired from football management before I burst onto the football scene. Good job by the sound of things, his method sometimes had its drawbacks.
