Brian Blessed
« on October 27, 2023, 08:13:04 pm by River Don »
On Look North tonight, live from Mexborough. Brian was born in Mexborough. My Mum saw him performing in Wuthering Heights in Mexborough way back, funnily enough he was talking about a bloke from his time back then who had a great impact on his career.

He told him he was a rough diamond but he needed to slow down, be less enthusiastic and just generally hold it back a bit.

Can you imagine, if Blessed is holding it back now what he would have been like?

Anyway, he said Mexborough people were the salt of the earth, with a great deal of sincerity. I do believe my Mam had a tear in her eye.

Thanks for that, RD. A man proud of his roots, unlike that w*nkpit, Jeremy Clarkson.

Brian Blessed was born in Mexborough hospital but the family home where he was brought up was in Goldthorpe.

That's true, I think they might have lived in Wath too. But I know he had a lot to do with the theatre in Mexborough. I believe there was something called the green door club. Anyway, he felt the need to go back there tonight.

Apparently Kieth Baron has links with it too. Two great actors from the same theatre background in Mexborough. They must've known what they were about.

I wasn't going to mention it but the reason my Mum got emotional at seeing Brian in Mexborough was because her first boyfriend performed with him.

He may have lived around Mexborough but the focus of his life at that time was the theatre in Mexborough.

I know a few people who went the other night. I was gonna go but left it too late and it sold out.

I've got Clinton Baptiste in Mexborough next week to see, mind.
