When I was at Uni I was very folky in my tastes - Pentangle, Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, and some music was just too heavy for me - like Queen, Santana and The Doors. Boy have I changed my mind

You didn't like the Doors, DU, but then you decided to break on through to the other side.
Well that's the end for me on this forum.

I always reckoned Riders on the Storm would have been brilliant on the soundtrack of Lord of the Rings film - probably when the riders were chasing the Hobbits through the forest between Bree and Rivendell

I'm with you brother.

Dull as f**king dishwater. Then and now.

Scotland has produced some fine bands. Jesus & Mary Chain, Cocteau Twins, Primal Scream, Blue Nile, Churches.

But if I came from Scotland and I visited anywhere else in the world, I'd feel like that German student character that Harry Enfield used to play. "I feel I should apologise on behalf of my country for Deacon Blue."

Everything by Coldplay. Putrid.
I still think the Ukrainians would steamroller the Russians if they just set up some huge mobile loudspeakers on the front line and blasted out some of their tripe loudly.

Then there is Adele. Miserable bag. I think she should be banned, a bit like suicide forums. Both for the same reason.

Would happily listen to Adele all day.

One of the best British singer songwriters ever.

The Rolling Stones
The Stone Roses
Coldplay
Take That
Duran Duran
Nirvana

All completely overrated in my view

But the award for the most overrated act of all time goes to The Beatles. They wrote some very good songs, but also wrote plenty of crap and yet are lauded as musical Gods! Try listening to The White Album and The Yellow Submarine albums. They should have listened to George Harrison more often.

Not sure about comics in sounds, but they were shite.
I had the misfortune of  seeing them.
I used to think Springsteen was bobbins but have warmed to him over the years.

First band I ever saw live. Grimsby Central Hall, December 1981. Been to hundreds of gigs since then and it is still one of the best.

I've got to ask you.
Did they close the set in December with Merry Xmas Everybody?

Sunshine on Leith makes the hairs on my neck stand up. Fantastic song but I've always like the Proclaimers. I was six years old when Letter From America came out and IIRC they performed it on Going Live with Philip Schofiled (whatever happened to him?!) and Sara Greene (even as a young kid I massively fancied her!). I guess if anything I would expect my opinion of Te Proclaimers to be the antithesis of this thread i.e. rated them then but think they're shite now as six year olds aren't known for their excellent taste but I'm sticking by my opinion that they're a great duo/band.

One band that has warmed on me is The Libertines. I thought they were massively over-rated at the time but now if I hear one of their songs in the car I'll be belting out the lyrics.

Have you seen the YouTube video of Hibs fans singing Sunshine on Leith after their 2016 Scottish Cup Final victory Mike F?

That will makes the hairs stand up!
