Wilks

Following GM's statement that he's looking to bring in another striker in January, I'm pretty confident of Mallik Wilks signing on loan to the end of the season.

He's not getting a look in at Wednesdays, and it must be a horrible club to be around at the moment anyway.

Does that mean we'll be signing Amos Brearly at centre half?

He's not a striker though is he? Yes, he's got goals in him but personally, I'd rather look at other options to supplement Ironside and Faal.

Would I take a risk on Wilks on loan as a wide player? Yes.

Is a fit Wilks better than Hurst and Molly?

I think yes. Get him in.

He was a striker though originally, Baz. It was GM who converted him to an attacking winger.

I can't think of any lower league central striker who would be available at the moment, and would have the scoring potential of Wilks, especially in League 2.

He did play as a striker for a bit at Hull under McCann. Would compliment our team very well and add the extra firepower that we need. If we can get to January and be 6-9 points off the play offs and then get 1 of him or Sharp that would turn us into definite play off contenders imo. Would prefer Wilks as he’s proved under McCann twice but would love both lol.

Crikey. When was the last time Wilks was 'proven' Or 'prolific' ?

He won't be the same player he was back then. If he's as good as what we think he could be, why isn't he playing regularly?

he hasn’t played regularly anywhere apart from under McCann, why that is we don’t know and probs never will. What we do know is he has played under McCann twice and has been excellent both times

The season with us he had 14 goals and 8 assists in 48 league games (plus 2 goals and 2 assists in 7 cup games). He averaged a goal involvement every 145 mins with us which is incredible for a winger, especially at 20 year old.

He then went to Hull to play under McCann again and scored 5 in 18 in a side that went down. The next season he was in a title winning side and got 19 goals and 8 assists in 44 league games (plus 3 goals and 1 assist in 6 cup games). Under GM at Hull he averaged a goal involvement every 130 mins, incredible again.

Under McCann his overall record is 59 goals and 29 assists in 129 games averaging a goal involvement every 123 mins.

McCann obviously knows how to get the best out of him and has proven that in 2 separate spells where he was prolific. He’s still only 24 aswell. Yes he was predictable but even in league defenders couldn’t stop him cutting onto his left foot and scoring, imagine him in league 2. If we were to bring him on (most likely on loan) he would be one of the best players in the league and turn us into genuine play off contenders.

He would be very good at League Two level. Which is exactly why there is zero chance of him leaving a Championship side to go on loan to a bottom half League Two side.

Somethings that need factoring into Wilks coming or not, does he want to play football or just take his money at Wednesday? How much have we in the kitty to afford him and how much are  Wednesday willing to pay of his wage whilst he’s at the Rovers? But above all how fit is he having not had much playing time in recent times?

The gulf is actually not as big as being portrayed though is it ??

Stuck in a struggling, clearly doomed bottom of the table Championship side with more or less an entire squad needing outing - OR playing for a great Manager, who you know well, in a vibrant side full of emerging talent with still more than a 50/50 chance of getting promoted.

I know which I'd be playing for, especially at 24 !

Well, I don't think there's zero chance of getting him here, people were saying there's zero chance of us getting McCann here when we were looking to replace Schofield, and look what happened there! Nothing ventured an' all that! Personally, would love to see Malik back with us.

Difference being McCann was out of work. Wilks has a contract at a (poorly performing) Championship side. We are bottom half of League Two and are not going to be paying anything like the wages of a mid-career Championship player.

There’s defo a chance of us getting him and imo a good chance as he’s hardly played for the last 2/3 years and McCann knows him well.

If he wants to get back to playing football then a loan move to us would be his best move imo. He knows McCann gets the best out of him and he knows the fans love him.

Just think it through.

He is a talented player who in the right role would rinse this league.

However, we have a big squad already and - this is the critical point - we no longer play 3 front players. In fact we have sent Sotana on loan partially because of this.

Wilks will be on very good wages. Wednesday are unlikely to be subsidising this. Why would we blow the bank on a loan player who doesn’t fit into our system?

Putting aside likely better resourced and placed clubs will be looking to sign him in January.

We're in no position to sneer at other clubs' results at the moment.

We're in the bottom 6 of the whole EFL. We're 9 points off the play-offs, yet only 5 points off the drop zone.

He started today for Wednesday. Subbed after an hour. He’s back in the fold. Zero chance of him coming to us.

Our problem is defending. We’ve decent strikers and is Miller gets fit good depth. I’m all for trying to score 4 every week to win a game but it’s going to be much cheaper/easier to get the defence sorted!

At least our problems are obvious. Last season there were too many to know where to start. That’s improvement I guess

Is anyone confident Miller will get back anytime soon? The manager has already called it, for me!

Definately a new keeper required as well, quicksticks!

We have 3 keepers contracts 4 month ago, embarrassing if we're admitting now that they aren't good enough.
