Frozen pitch?
« on January 18, 2024, 08:25:42 am by Jimmydee »
Due to the weather forecast of snow, I  held back from buying a Bradford ticket, the snow doesn’t appear to be a worry but maybe there could be a frozen pitch.
I wonder if they invested in under soil heating when they were in the premier league.

It is turning relatively, quite warm there next few days. Won’t be an issue with frozen pitch.

Agree ... 4am Friday morn is last minute Temp for a while at VParade

Then it warms up to 6 by Saturday if BBC can be trusted

It will have to do some serious warming up, I work in Batley and the ground is rock solid. The stadium will offer some protection, and they will have protective covers on I imagine/hope.

It is warmer today than the last couple of days and is currently 1 degree. Wind chill making it feel -3. Last night was the coldest in years. The untreated roads were treacherous this morning but the sun is melting the dusting of snow and ice where it actually shining on it. I did have to scrape the car this morning but better than yesterday when it barely got above -2. I can see it being fine if tomorrow and Saturday’s forecasts are right.

Yes, it’s a tradition I will be in with the grandkids. They are old enough to buy me a pint now. Some of my late son’s mates will probably be in as well. Always a good atmosphere in there and a great selection of hand pulled beers. Many happy memories from previous seasons.

If possible I'll try to pop in and say hello.

Just been talking to someone from Bradford (a city fan) who reckons it will be off

BBC often goes a little higher.

A few hours of 4/5C tomorrow morning / afternoon might not be enough to thaw it after a deep freeze all week. High stands too blocking the sun. Bradford not getting above 3C today.

I'm no expert but it seems a bit premature to inspect the pitch at 1.30pm today?

I live not too far from Bradford and we've got a steady thaw here which is set to continue this afternoon and through tomorrow morning.

You don't need to be an expert. Due to be 5c when the match is played tomorrow. Have they not got covers at Valley Parade?

If this is called off at half 1 today it will be a joke of a decision.

They've had frost covers on the pitch since last Friday. They are effective to -4 degrees but the temperature dipped to -7 earlier this week so parts of the pitch are currently frozen.

Game off, it’s my fault because I bought a ticket and tempted fate.

I've been working in Shipley on the railway this week and it has absolutely been Baltic freezing even up till two to three o'clock in the afternoon so in my view this was never ever gonna be on the ground was absolutely rock hard welding trough lids to troughs just with frozen ice so no chance correct decision in my book

I’ve just tried the fork on my front grass. It was covered in snow and ice until yesterday. I live a couple of miles away from Valley Parade and at higher altitude than the ground.
The fork went in easily to 2 or 3 inches depth. It does make you wonder about such an early pitch inspection yesterday.

The Bradford groundsman shared a video he made this morning and virtually the whole length of the pitch was still frozen solid. It was noticeable that there was hardly any grass on it.

Frozen from half way to away end by the looks of it. How shocking does the pitch look too!
