Relegation
« on January 27, 2024, 04:23:17 pm by Upton Rover »
We got to take this as a real possibility. We are playing shocking football, no idea. What are we doing on the training ground?, is GM up to the job? Are the board bothered? and every performance is a step backwards, and a step closer to non league football.

I think he’s run out of ideas, and is waiting for the board to push the ejector seat button.
He has been a massive disappointment since coming back. We are not a side that is equipped for a relegation battle.

If we do get dragged further into it I think we could look back at the business this January and kick ourselves.

I don't think one win means we are promotion prospects and I don't think one loss (even as bad as this) means we will go down. This results highlights how far we are from being a top club even in this league.
Not quite time to hit the panic button but things never seem to get any better.

It’s a combination of very poor results, anybody else would have already been sacked.

It’s not just 1 loss, we’ve only won 8 all season, and it’s our performances over the past few games that makes it a relegation worry

We are relying on Sutton and Forest Green continuing to lose because we can’t defend to save ourselves.

The footballing side of the Club is in a shocking state. From top to bottom. There is blatantly no plan at all.

Ridiculous injury handling.

Lack of any kind of data driven recruitment.

No forward planning.

As already stated by others, this squad is not equipped/built for Division 4 dog fight.

I just hope we somehow scrape through and survive.

Sutton away next, and they held Walsall today and Mansfield previously to draws both away. I can't see us not losing to them so things are only getting worse.

I have been loyal to McCann but W8 D4 L16 is pretty atrocious.

Don't want to be harsh on the new recruits but they have had little impact.

It's worrying. Very worrying.

Craig and McGrath, two raw novices. How can anyone seriously think they would come into a side struggling massively and make an impact? Copps and Grant obviously did. The mind boggles.

I was so desperate for him to come back, but there has been a few dubious decisions. Today with no change at the back.

He could have put Bailey back there or wood on the bench.

Strange

If we stay up this season, he has this summer and then until Christmas. 18 months even with this shitshow inheritance is enough to show progress.

The question is how fed up is GM getting? If we get beat by Sutton will he walk?

The only one of our team today who looked even remotely like a competent footballer was Adelakun when he came on.

All this talk of McCann walking. His managerial career would be next to over if he did. He's been backed more than the last few managers and has a squad bugger than Man City and from what I'm seeing signed quite a bit of rubbish bar a couple.

The leadership of the club lacks dynamism and new ideas. The manager looks to me to be out of his depth in the situation he’s found himself in. Really disappointed with the whole thing. If you keep making the same mistakes, you will get the same results.

That result today was embarrassing for the club and its fans. It wasn’t a one off bad game, anybody can lose the odd one like that. A real mess on our hands, we will be lucky to retain league status. It hurts to say that.

Are they still in the dressing room? They shoud be, nowhere near good enough from any proffesional footballer worth their salt
McCann & Byrne also need to hold their hands up also. Jones, Close, Rowe, Olowu, Mollyneux, Hurst, that's over half the team with the losing mentallity over 2 seasons, all starting? Really? Along with that add a young midfielder who looks like a lost sheep.

Do we actually coach defending set pieces, we are actually getting worse at it, absolutely shocking.

The problem for me is I don't see what McCann is trying to do and that's a big big worry.

The team looks weak and there aren't many patterns of play.

The only difference between this and Schofield is that mccann gives better interviews.  Had he not been here before he'd be hounded out by now.

Where do we go from here? I've not a clue. But conceding 5 at home twice in two months is ridiculous.

Can’t see where the next win is going to come from between now and the end of the season.

Said the same to my mate, not saying McCann should be sacked but by god he’s been a disappointment.

My biggest worry is we have a squad full of very average players and we just keep signing more.

Extra bodies returning and recruited this month I worry is going to make things worse not better!

Decent players don't want to come and play for us.

Simple as that.

So we're left with players who aren't good enough, or loan players with no real desire to play and do well for us, as they'll just return to their parent clubs afterwards.

Each game I watch I keep seeing a lack of skill, fight and desire.

I really don't know how the club turn this around. It needs vast investment to lure decent players to play for us, or luck with finding a diamond in the rough who turns out good.

I feel we've been trying that last one with managers and players for too long, and we haven't got lucky with that strategy yet.

Is McCann in a rolling contract, I'd imagine he'll leave of his own fruition at end of season. I still maintain it would be madness sacking him, as he isn't the problem.

It's just all very worrying. Don't know what more I can say really.

We're in big trouble aren't we.

Still lacking proper leadership on the pitch. Still shocking defensively. And now without the talismanic Faal to get goals.

The mentality has to shift to milking points from games and eking out the rest of this season. In all honesty, I don't know if this team is capable of it.

The only glint of a silver lining is that Westbrooke might be back sooner than expected to give us a bit more going forward.

Frankly, this season has been loads worse than last - never thought I'd say that - and could be about to get bad, very bad.

My hunch is we will just survive. By the skin of our b*llocks. I think if we can somehow just do that, we will (I know I sound mad) have a much, much better season next year as surely a line will need to be drawn. We are in very real danger of slipping out of the league again, when a club with our resources and infrastructure should be nowhere near it.

Massive lessons learnt review needed even if we survive this nightmare

We just aren't doing the basics. Forget doing them well enough, we aren't doing them AT ALL right now. I see little movement from our lads - today Carty had the ball and was mobbed by several of their lads - not one of ours lifted a finger to help or offer him a route out. I see set pieces are killing us (and if we think relegation might lead to that being less of an issue... oh boy), our physio has extended yet another injury, players lack any mental strength and the experienced heads are past it.

I genuinely can't see how any other manager could make owt from this dross but if McCann is removed - please please PLEASE Terry : Cut the crap about entertaining football and find someone pragmatic that can build proper foundations! McCann and O'Driscoll flew off the backs of Ferguson's and Penny's well built teams. It might not be pretty, but after these past few years we need to know what a win looks like.
