Rowe your boat
« on January 27, 2024, 05:01:10 pm by KingKendrick »
If Tommy Towe was called Brian Lewis and we got him from Hartlepool 2 years ago there is no way he would still be at this club. Great servant but time to pack it in.

Horrible left back , but need a keeper who will come off his line or no point even playing

We have a number of what must be our higher earners out of contract this summer - Rowe, Taylor, Close and Wood.

Playing LB out of necessity isn’t he?

Doesn’t mean he can just wander off and leave us exposed over and over. 1st time you can let off as a mistake but he either didn’t cotton on or wasn’t bothered. Very naive

Rowe took a drop in wages to come back, been a decent servant but father times  caught up .
Taylor had a nightmare with injuries through no fault of his own but it was criminal who ever handed him that contract. Only way he could possibly stay is on a pay as you play type deal? Not sure anyone's gonna touch him with his injury record.
Close , divides opinion on here be on a big screw but been a central part of abject failure while he's been fit for the last 2 seasons. Needs to go for me we can do better.
Wood. Got his limitations but dropping down from Champ I thought he'd make a difference for us and get us organised , injuries and playing in back four have not helped him . Hoped he'd partner Faulkner & bring his game on.

The clubs policy of embracing signing players well into their 30s always ends in tears doesn’t it. Reviewing that strategy may be a positive step forward.

I think there is work to do with the full backs but Sterry, Senior, Maxwell and Nixon would be a good group.

We can't be thinking about Anderson and Olowu for next season. Neither Wood or Long. Faulkner and McGrath plus two senior centre backs needs to be the future.

One of Jones and Lawlor will need to move on to make room for a new senior keeper.

That's a total of four new signings (Nixon, centre backs and keeper) and a contract extension for Faulkner.

Issue we are going to have is Andrew and Olowu making room, given both still have another season.

I wouldn't bother keeping any of them bar Close.

Most of them will leave, perhaps almost all. That means yet another summer of huge turnover. Yet another bedding in period for likely half a new squad. Yet more getting up to speed. And probably likely more long term injuries.

Tommy redefined awol today - and then even after allowing them in for the first 2 he was at it again, wandering off - and all under McCann's nose ??

Then rinse and repeat twice more in second half.

Oh and Olowu cannot defend or head a ball to save his life

Olowu has physical attributes to be a great central defender but has nowt between his ears.

Keep Maxwell and Faulkner get rid of the rest.

Then offload (somehow) Anderson, Olowu, Sterry, Broadbent and one keeper.

Then buy 5  proper quality players+ a an experienced keeper with a massive gob on him.
Give the signings from the Gateshead’s and the Halifax’s a miss.,
If senior and miller also can’t get fit pay them off and move on.
Reduce squad size and buy quality.

I’m sorry I just don’t get this about Bobby Faulkner, I know the lad has his problems with injuries but he only appears on the subs bench and he never gets on.
He’s a local lad, but so was Sam Hird and Louis Jones is but they’ve never had the backing that Faulkner has on this forum

He can head
He can win a challenge
He's brave
He's not slow
He has decent positioning
He has decent concentration

McGrath removed from this and to be fair Bailey too.

None of our other centre halves check that list.

But back to Tommy Rowe - we have let him down over the seasons probably more than vice versa. The positional changes have been too much. I think he's offered more in our central midfield than many, he offers physicality in there and is always up for a scrap. Close is a "baller" but not a good enough player fight wise. Our midifled and wingers have been weak for years now.

In my opinion, because when I've seen his seen his fleeting appearances, he has real potential, is better, stronger, braver, more positionally aware, wears his heart on his sleeve, & has a goal in him. Better attributes than an almost ever present Olowu has.

My comment about Maxwell was more a general one over the season as a whole.

Yes, he's missed a good chunk through injury. But even when available, I get the impression he's not seen as a first choice. He was on the bench first game of the season.

He's made 11 appearances in all competitions this year, but only played the full 90 mins twice (we won both games...) In other games, he's often been the one taken off when the game isn't going well. In others still, he's been left warming the bench and not called on as we slumped.

It just adds up to an impression that McCann doesn't really rate him.
