Top of the League just down the road and only brought half a stand of fans. That was poor especially when they are playing so well

Only an hour on the train direct and a pretty much gaurenteed win for them, thought they'd be out in big numbers.

They had more than half a stand full there.
Not seen any official figures but surely it was around 2000.

Fair enough but there looked to be more.
I will take a bigger abacus next time.

We had (noting the usual season ticket point) 5900 home, which seems decent these days.

1625 away.

We took as many last season and were rubbish to watch.

We’re averaging about 5800 home fans this season I think, as of the last time I checked. Whilst I think we could and should be pulling more fans in if things were going better, I think our support has held up fairly well considering what we’ve endured in the last 3 years.

You can see the signs of the more casual supporters’ patience running out now though. Not selling out Mansfield away, only just selling out 700-odd at Harrogate, and we might not sell out 1100 at Grimsby at this rate.

Unless we have a really positive end to the season I fear there will be a noticeable drop-off in attendance next season. We really need something to happen to re-invigorate our support.

We’d sold over 900 for the away game at Bradflord last week, I know that there will be few getting a refund because it’s probably rearranged for a Tuesday night, but there will be people that can go regardless but don’t want to see more of that crap that we witnessed yesterday.

We sold out what we had been allocated the week before last. We then got given a couple hundred extra on Tuesday and sold those.

I don't know why we were only allocated 1700 but all those tickets sold.

The direct train wasn't running, rail replacement buses for a huge section of the journey. The only route by train was to go via Huddersfield and that takes 3.5 hours.

I know someone who goes to almost every away game by train, he got a coach.

People are human at the end of the day and like to enjoy their weekend. It’s only natural the crowd will go up a couple of thousand if/when we ever challenge at the top end of the division again.

You would have been given what you asked for

Quite probably. But that doesn't change the fact that we sold out what we were given. If you think we should have had more then blame our club not asking for more, not our fans who sold our allocation.

Certainly no direct trains will have played a part in any decision making there.

Got to admit I was gobsmacked (and disappointed)at how few Stockport fans there were, probably knew they would get 3points without needing fans help.
Think that end holds more than 3000 so only half full

I would love to know how more of us could have gone without more tickets?

We’ve never restricted the away end to less than 2000, never ever. If you had sold out the away allocation we can always make extra seats available on an adjacent block giving a total of over 4,000 seats.
The problem would be with your club.

And? I'm not saying the problem wasn't our club's decision (although neither of us can know for certain, for all we know it could have been a police call). I'm asking how we can possibly have brought more than we had tickets? We sold out the initial allocation on either the 16th or 17th. We then got another couple hundred on the 23rd which then also sold out. You can't criticise our fans for not coming when we sold as many tickets as we had. Just because there could have been more tickets doesn't mean we got them, we sold what we got. How do we bring more than we got tickets? Whoever's decision it was is irrelevant to that question. I'd understand you bringing it up if I was criticising Donny but I'm not.

I have also pointed out that there weren't any direct trains on Saturday because of engineering work. That got ignored.

Just sounds like a catalogue of excuses lol
We’d have obviously liked the away end full, guess you’re just not as well supported as Mansfield,Bradford, Notts County or Grimsby sic

What’s the point in this argument. Credit to the Stockport fans that travelled. Good luck with the rest of the season.

To be fair to them 9000 turn up every week at home. Probably why they can afford the quality of players they have in their team. I mean Nick Powell would walk into most league 1 teams

It’s not an argument merely an observation-I never slate fans for travelling.
It would however seem that for one reason or another that Rovers have lost out on the money that another 1500 fans would have generated

Definitely not a Police decision, they don't have the power to tell a business how many customers to accept. And, as others have pointed out, we've accommodated a full away end on numerous occasions this season, so the issue is definitely at your end.

I for one was amazed how few supporters you brought, transport could have been the main factor, but it certainly wasn't anything to do with us.

It's easy to look at Stockport's home gates this season and see the 9k average they're pulling in and expect them to have brought more, but I think you have to remember that historically they aren't as well supported as that. In fact, the closest they've got to that sort of average in the last 50 years was when they'd just been promoted to the 2nd tier in the late 1990s, when their average at home was just over 8k (only for 1 season, mind you.)

This is not to have a go at Stockport at all. They've got a lot of "bigger" clubs on their doorstep so to be getting 9k at home and taking decent numbers away consistently is good going.

They're in a good place at the moment. Their support is obviously responding well to being back in the league, the team receiving a good level of investment, and being upwardly mobile.

They're probably comparable to us when we got promoted out of non-league and surged up the leagues. Our support was buoyant at that time and we took good numbers away in the first few years (but never averaged anywhere near 9k at home until we reached the Championship). That's dampened down quite a bit for us now and we took 1100 to Stockport last season, and 900 this season, so I would say the 1600 they brought actually represents OK numbers.

I don't think we are.

The poster implied that we had restricted their attendance, which we didn't.
