From what I can find he signed a 1yr deal with Hull June 2023 when he then signed for us on loan.

If he is available on a free I would snap him up. Personally think he is a great player. Definitely an upgrade on Seaman as a back up if nothing else.

For me he would be challenging Sterry for RB. Not sure why he fell out of favour so quickly.

I agree. Grant seemed to go off him for some reason but from what I’ve seen he’s been a solid player for us. We’ve had some average ones in recent seasons (and that’s being kind).

The cliche view is usually he doesn’t offer enough going forward (all teams need a Kyle Walker now apparently) but he’s not had much chance to show us that side of his game. I liked Maxwell straight away when he joined and he’s developed into an outstanding player.

I trust Grant though so if we upgrade then fair enough.

I like Nixon too and I reckon Grant just fancies Sterry more - rather than him going off Nixon.

Nixon seems to be all energy, but when you think about it, maybe he wastes a bit of that energy by not being as experienced as Sterry, and just lacking a bit of composure at vital times but hopefully that will come in time. Let's face it Kyle Walker used his pace to great effect but has matured into a better all around footballer than just straight up and down.

I agree with your point generally but Kyle Walker isn’t a good example to use - he’s not great going forward!

  I'm not Sterrys greatest fan tbh, cant fault his commitment and attitude one bit,but for me he gets caught out of position far to much and fails to stop the crosses coming in.I'm not saying he hasn't improved but if we want to put in a title challenge I think we need better.

I agree completely WC - not a Sterry fan at all, poor delivery, poor at getting out to stop crosses, not solid enough in heading the ball / defending crosses in to the box. I'd assumed Nixon wasn't fully fit, as I much prefer him to Sterry and would have him start first every time.

It would be great but I don’t think we are going to be spending money on Nixon as a back up. He’s coming from Hull so will be on decent money and would he want to step down two leagues to sit on bench?

Agreed. When he did put a delivery in it wasn’t great either.

The full backs are a really important creative outlet in a McCann team. 1 assist in 25 for Nixon. He’d be better suited to a defensive team I think.

I do quite like Sterry but there’s no harm in signing competition that can potentially be better than him. We want to win the league after all.

I think Nixon will definitely turn in to a better player than Sterry. I like Sterry, but people go past him easily and often, and this is in league 2. League 1 wingers would probably have a field day against him.

Offensively he offers more than Nixon does now but Nixon could work on that. First job of a full back is to defend.

Only Hakks has been formerly released by his club.The other three loanees are under contract to another club until 30 June and do not figure on release lists so either loan agreements or transfers would have to be negotiated .Craig , Nixon and Tim .

Tend to agree. I thought Senior and Nixon would have good futures but for me both Maxwell and Sterry look more assured overall. Nixon definitely has potential but do we pay for untapped potential who in McCann's eyes would be back up for Sterry?

Callum Johnson has been suggested, and looked decent against us. I'm sure the club have options in mind.

I don't dislike Nixon, but think Sterry is the better player right now. Seems to me Sterry is very under rated by our fans. Apart from the loanees and Wood, I think our upturn has been a lot down to him. We do need a back up however.

Never going to happen but see they’ve let Greg Docherty go who played a lot for McCann when he was manager. Would be too good for this level anyway but worth an ask just in case he fancies winning a title!

Injuries aside Sterry is a great right back. Surprised to see some of the comments tbh. We play him and Moly high up the pitch and when a team break on us the likelyhood is there will be a ball coming into our box. Doesn't mean Sterry is poor.
