One big difference in our make-up this close season is the fact that Terry Bramall has got not only much closer to GM and Gavin but to understanding firsthand the issues with the squad. It will be easier for Grant to explain the need for this and that than and  for Terry to understand than it ever was through David Blunt .

I said it last year and again now if we want to be Champions next season the Jones and Lawlor are not good enough. The contract situation was a mistake at the beginning of the season. We had to find better in January we did and the results showed it .

If we get stuck with Lawlor or Jones as our only alternatives for the goalie next year kiss goodbye to any challenge for promotion, neither can control their area, their distribution is poor and the back 4 are constantly looking over their shoulders when they are there in case they need to try and save them. The whole defence starts with a reliable goalie, we don't have one on the books now.

Saying Jones's distribution is poor is ridiculous. He is excellent at getting the ball out quickly and accurately.

Agreed, I think this is one of his better attributes.

Agree with that Billy, if only he could command his 6 yard box

Jones and Lawlor are up there with Etheridge and Woods for our worst permanent Keepers since 97/98

And yet we won a promotion with Woods, albeit he had a certain Rob Jones in front of him ! Agreed though, both our incumbents aren’t no where near the level of TLT ! I’m sure it will be addressed before the start of the season

I’d rather have you in Goal than Jones mate and Dahlberg wasn’t permanent either

I hate to be pedantic but we only ever had Dahlberg on loan. Fortunately, given he was utter crap.

We said this during extra time. He's a very clever lad and I always fancy him in a 1 v1

Jones isn’t what we need from a no.1 but he’s miles ahead of that utter clown Mitchell.

Bit harsh IMO. Mitchell played in a really poor team and made some fantastic saves. Distribution was terrible at times but he wasn't a clown and won player of season. Just a sign of the times we were in.

Could handle a high ball better than a lot of recent keepers.

JM was good in the air I’ll give him that. He’s actually just been released by Harrogate.

I think people are being harsh on Jones though. He doesn’t drop the clangers that Mitchell used to. And he can actually kick a ball.

The endless talk about the shortcomings of recent goalkeepers only emphasises their general inadequacy. Risk-averse Jones has his permanent critics and none of the recent loanees - TLT excepted - reaches even a generally agreed level of “satisfactory”.

We go round in circles. It’s time for those who recruit to improve their judgement.

He wasn't good in the air in his debut v Rotherham. We've skimped and saved on that area since we had Lumley on loan. We need  a strong Number 1, not alternating Number 2's. Harsh on Jones as I don't think he's had the run of games he needs.

Mitchell was on a one man mission to get us relegated during the second half of the season.

Is it completely out of the question that TLT will return? I havn’t read anything that says he’s definately not coming back here. If I’ve missed where he has said it, then I apologise.

Let's face it, it would be a backward step for TLT if he ended up back here. I'm sure we'd all want to see him progress.

There will be other factors but staying down this season means we lost any chance of TLT, potentially Craig coming back, and perhaps even the three out of contract players. Go up, and most of those would have been possible. Same after losing at Charlton, all the quality then left. It is fine margins to keep progressing.

So would have I, last Saturday I was talking to one his ex youth team colleagues and he said exactly the same because he had a very high percentage of penalty saves

His general shot saving % is not very good. Has he ever saved a penalty for the first team?
