Casualty of the General Election
« on May 25, 2024, 03:24:20 pm by ForsolongaRover »
The BBC website included the following as one of the pieces of legislation lost as a result of the early calling of a General Election.
“Football Governance Bill
Following the collapse of Bury Football Club and a doomed bid to set up a European Super League, the government a set up a review, external of the governance of the game.
One of the key recommendations was to establish an independent regulator who would have the power to sanction clubs who break financial rules.
This bill would have set up the new regulator, but has now been dropped.”

It’s not been dropped at all. It has cross party support so it’s just a matter of time.

And just to add the shadow regulator has been in place for a while and the department has its funding allocated and civil servants are currently drawing up individual requirements. It will go through, and Keir Starmer is an advocate of the IR as well as being an Arsenal supporter!

We'll that's good news and we will have to hope that it doesn't lose its place in the queue. It could perhaps have to start afresh though and miss the chance of implementation for 24/25.
