First game of the 2024/25 season.

Who would you want to kick off the season against.

I’d want us to start at home against a team that will bring plenty of fans so we have a good/great atmosphere that transmits in a positive way to the boys in hoops.

Bradford City.

A Yorkshire team (derby game?) that we have some ‘history’ with. Their fans are always noisy & come in numbers so would love us to ‘shut them up’ with an impressive display & victory.

Anyone away. I don't think we've won at home on opening day since 2004.

We had that last season with Harrogate, didn't really do us any favours did it.

Reckon we will be away 1st match.
It seems to almost be alternative seasons.
Last game of the season though is less predictable and is definitely not alternative seasons.
Above is on previous fixtures over the last 20 yrs.

Let’s get Fleetwood Town out of the way 1st game. Pitch should be in reasonable condition and the weather should be decent.
Both of the above on the same day would be a 1st for us.
Maybe we could actually get a win at that place this season. That would be another 1st.
Yes let’s have them please away.

If we are away would be nice to have a stadium which can take a decent away following....Notts or MK..

We don't need lot's of away fans to create a good atmosphere at the Eco. Last season showed that. We just need fans who want to support DRFC irrespective of who we are playing.  Start as we mean to go on and carry forward that momentum and show McCann and the players we believe in them.

We nearly always draw our opening game of the season if it’s at home.

Think we have only one 1 at home since our return to the league in 2003/04
That’s 21 seasons so without checking I would imagine that’s between 9 and 12 games at home on the opening day.

Rather start away and get the away form up and running from day one.
We get who we get but it is important we make a solid start to the season. Would be happy with 16/18 points after 10 games.

Of course would be even happier with 25 points but sometimes you can start too well and are unable to maintain that form.
Always remember Tranmere in 2012/13
They were walking the league title until end of November and finished the season in 11th position I think it was.

Their best player that season was on loan from Wolves and went back after Christmas.

Bradford away, get it done with before the state of their pitch starts racking up injuries again.

If it’s raining when we’re away to Fleetwood, you can easily buy a “Mac”

Does the Dons playing at home (vs Toulouse) on the opening weekend (Saturday 6pm) affect anything?
(i.e. we have to be playing away as someone's already using the pitch)

I would assume the answer will be yes, looks like it’s an away day then

Home to Chesterfield, that would be a great atmosphere and a good game, they will fancy their chances.

Unless that match is re scheduled then we can’t play at home.
We are due an away game this year and that looks nailed on now.

Don’t we have precedence in those situations?

According to some of the above posts, we can't be at home because the Dons are playing at 6pm on that day.
