Lots of those nicknames appear to have been updated over the years.

Was just thinking the same - not heard Colliers for Barnsley and Throstles for WBA.

What year is that from ITB?

These are new on me:
Burnley - Turfites
Notts C - Lambs
Notts F - Forresters

Must be from before 1968, the year Hartlepools dropped the 'S'

Leeds United - Peacocks!

Nowadays they've dropped the 'Pea' and are just a bunch of cocks!

Likely 1950s. Gateshead dropped out of the league in 1960 (and Accrington Stanley in 1962). Scunthorpe and Colchester joined the league in 1950.

And Swansea became a City in 1969

Gillingham and Shrewsbury missing as well

Brighton were/are The Seagulls, not The Shrimps!

Correction! In 1950 the nickname was believed to be “The Shrimps”, although their fans rarely used the name.

I remember Rovers down as the pirates in the 50s. The Green Un used to have the caricature of a pirate at the top of our report. Chesterfield had the crooked spire, Rotherham a windmill and Sheffield United’s player was the shape of a blade.
Happy days.

That might be before my time Filo. It doesn’t ring a bell.
I remember having a book with all teams nicknames and knew them off by heart when I was about 10.

I remember them as the Throstles until Baggies seemed to supercede that

Throstles was more apt though as it is a Thrush whose Latin name is Turdus Philomelos , but just think Turdus and you won't be far away

Barnsleys the Tarns Coat of Arms has a Miner and a Glass Blower on it both big industries so The Colliers was apt as well

Their Latin Motto translates to "judge us by our actions" .....

I remember Barnsley being called "The Colliers" long before their current nickname "The Dingles".

I remember Sunderland being the Rokerites when I was a lad but recently they are often called Mackems.
Probably as they are no longer at Roker Park.

I took my ex’s dad to the Bolton game where we got annihilated at the Keepmoat in the cup, he kept shouting ‘up the pirates’ as he hadn’t been for a couple or three decades, much to our embarrassment. After the game,  looked up the pirates nickname and found a bit about it but very little.
