Or The Green'un

When I was away at University, my dad used to post me the Green Un on his way to work on Monday mornings. I'd get it on Wednesday. Weird to think that in my adult lifespan we've gone from that to streaming matches on phones in high definition.

I remember having to wait until the results being read on the late ITV news at about half 10 to know how we’d got on in a midweek game.
Also
Listening to a very a crackley Radio Hallam or Sheffield when we had an evening fixture at Plainmoor. Knowing fans would’ve been able to fly to New York in the time it took a Leon coach to trundle back to Donny from the English Riviera

Those were the days listening to midweek football (not Rovers) on my transistor radio 1500 metres medium wave with a bit of Radio Luxemburg or an Asian Station drifting in and out in the background

All of the above for me too.

There was definitely a period in the 1990s where you could dial a number and pay to listen to live commentary of games.

YES! That’s right, I remember not having a telephone in late 80’s and nipping down the phone box near Bognor Regis to dial into the final result and a round up. What was it called??
(Honest I was phoning Rovers, nowt dodge)

A very warm welcome indeed to Doncaster Rovers Club call.

I heard this so many times and it's still in my head.

Usually Alan Smith doing the commentary. Still there every match at home. A lovely man to chat to.

Or The Green'un

The same for me when I was at University. I was in Norwich but discovered completely by accident that my car radio could receive (just) Radio Sheffield on the North Norfolk coast. If wasn't playing football or cricket myself, I'd go for a drive and listen in!

I decided to try the Rovers+ thing today.
I logged into my DRFC account on the official site and clicked on the option to listen to commentary (as I obviously can’t watch a video stream as I am in the UK).
Nothing happened!
I tried several times but each time nothing happened.
I don’t think I did anything wrong.
Has anyone got any suggestions as to what I could have, or should have done please.

When I tried clicking on the commentary, I got the message 'You do not have a subscription for this' or summat like that. Which is fine cos I haven't paid for it. Have you?

No mate.
The details on the screen just reverted back to the start again.
Isn’t it possible then to pick and choose when you want to listen to the commentary or do I have to pay a monthly or annual subscription.

How times have changed indeed. When I moved away from Donny, Saturday games meant "follow the bouncing ball" on the videoprinter on Grandstand. For midweek games I couldn't wait for the following day's paper so I used to ring the sports desk at the Daily Mirror for the result. When I moved to New Zealand the results were in Monday morning's paper, and usually only the Premier League! I couldn't survive without knowing the Rovers result so I used to phone Belle Vue early Sunday morning, (NZ time) to find out the score. I'm sure they thought I was on the moon or something. Never thought I'd get updates on my watch! Technology, Wow.

I suggest you email Liam Hoden who is very helpful. Rovers+ was unresponsive initially for me yesterday and I got rather annoyed and just hit the button angrily half a dozen times and suddenly it came through. It could be my iPad screen getting dirty, but it might be a technical connection issue at the transmission end.

Thanks for that info mate but apparently I have to pay a monthly or annual subscription to access Rovers+.
I know that as I am in the UK I can’t watch 3pm Saturday kick off games but did think I could listen to match commentary if I paid game by game, as was possible under the iFollow scheme.
Anyway, what is the email contact detail for Hoden please?

The subscription packages are quite clear on what you get and how much it costs;

It might help if I could get some information but when I go onto the DROS and log in to my account I then click on Rovers+ and get the following picture which tells me which is the next game but then I click on Buy Audio Pass I just get the screen showing the other picture.
Whatever I click on then, nothing happens.

It just might be a software glitch. Sometimes pages stick, so either go back or refresh and it'll bring up the Subscription page.

I tried it by choosing the monthly pass, then it took me to a payment page where I it asks you for your card details.

Yep, that’s a good idea mate, I often do that but have to admit to forgetting to try it.
I will report back next time I want to give it a go.
