That’s the latest projected cost to complete Hinckley C there is no completion date in site and the re have been long delay’s wherever this type of reactor has/is being Installed,China , France and Finland. EDF are looking for a further £5 Billion of investment!
The project is vast with 12,000 workers on site. They have taken over Pontins old Holiday camp
At Weston Super Mare and they also have built a Small town centre on the site. Ed Milliband will be scrutinising the Papert as Sewell C is likely to be put on the Back Burner .

Hincley was supposed to be open by 2017, at a fraction of the cost.
The business case is shot to pieces, and the sooner Reeves and Starmer realise new nuclear is a money pit the better.

I don't necessarily think new nuclear is a money pit, it's the now outdated big reactor tech that is onerously expensive.

The future of nuclear is in the smaller reactors developed by the likes of Rolls Royce. Wish I'd held onto the shares I bought at 70p instead of taking a 50% profit!

Small Modular Nuclear is a continuation of that trend.
It will never be viable without state support, and will need subsidy for construction and decommisioning.

That is the context......as a power source, we have cheaper solutions with shorter timescales and no big waste disposal issues.
Why would you go for nukes if you want to decarbonise quickly, when Hinkley shows it will take 20 years and come in way over budget?

Still got mine, 477% they're up (sorry). £5 and I'm out, I wish I'd gone in much bigger but then had they not gone up....  Small tech reactors are a good idea and would go on for decades.

SMD will not help with the rise in nuclear costs coming at the same time as a big fall in water, wind, sun and grid scale battery costs.

It is a massive black hole for cash to move from the public accounts to de-risk private sector investors, and will contribute very little to electricity supply to a reasonable timeline.
