Not all academy but some young lads, definitely.

Still, we’re very comfortable and no injuries

Some good points and points to work on. Very good press from us, very high up - caught them out twice. Bit too aggressive at times, giving away unnecessary fouls. We've also looked susceptible to give it away at the back on a couple of occasions but McGrath hasn't put a foot wrong. Hurst and Gibson very good.

Hull goalkeeper must be leading the possession stats.

What’s the Hull fan turn out looking like tonight?

I haven't seen  a team as bad as Hull for many years. They are dreadful.
[/quy

Is that because you’ve been covering your eyes watching us at various points over the last 5 seasons?

I'm not sure we have played that bad over the last 5 seasons..even under Schofield. The way they pass the ball about at the back they are an accident waiting to happen.......and it cost them 2 goals and it could have been more.
That's not taking anything away from our lads who have really good.

Not bad. They have the two blocks to the right of the goal as you look at it

Ricky Charlesworth from the Free Press has praised the performance of Broadbent at the base of the midfield. Encouraging to hear.

I hope this is his year, if it's not then midfield is a problem.  2 weeks to the season starting and close/Westbrook remain out that's a worry.

But, good win tonight and it feels to me the team is a team. We are in a good place with consistency going in to this season.

In his three seasons with us, Close has started respectively 14, 34 and 18 league games. Less than half of league games during his entire time at Rovers.

Westbrooke only 22 league starts, albeit over shorter period.

He did do very well, he kept the ball and rovers moving, he was also a good out ball for the defence, often getting it in tight spaces.
The only thing to say was it was against a weak young side in the first half, but good signs from him.

Hull fan on there over-reacting maybe a little:

"The team that took the field representing Hull City for the first hour must have been the weakest side we have ever put out against league oppositon in our history, friendly or no friendly."

If I were a Hullfan i’d  be worried, they couldn’t handle our energy and press, Broadbent was excellent, Hurst looks hungry and Sbarra looks an upgrade on Rowe

We looked very, very good. So fit and strong all of them.

But Jesus Nixon looked like a different player!

Massive selection headaches incoming for McCann, what a squad we now have.

Broadbent was a different player to the one we saw last season. Only one game but he has come on in leaps and bounds. Definitely starting X1 material.

They should be worried if they didn't play their under 21s.

Broadbent looked quality, really put himself about in the first 30mins and his vision and distribution through the game was great. Couple of nervy moments but they were the making of others.

McGrath I thought looked really good at the back. Strong, composed and has a great switch on him.

Gibson looks like he will be a good signing for us as did Sbarra.

Joe Ironside is just Joe and Bailey is just Bailey, no more need be said.

Hurst outshone them all though. That is the player we saw glimpses of before and what a pre-season he is having.

The young keeper looked comfortable on the ball.

One thing I noticed that did concern me, and it was evident within 2minutes of the change, Lawlor sits very very deep which our lads won't be used to now having half a season of TLT. When Hull keeper had the ball Lawlor was on edge of his 18 yard box. There was a BIG void between him and defence when they pushed up so if he ends up playing at times we will be susceptible to ball over the top, especially if Olowu isn't on the pitch.

Overall great performance regardless of opposition team selection. They were all first team players according to Hull website, by the way they only list 20 first team players and 3 of them are keepers?! Probably time for Hull fans to worry???

Sorry guys, but I don’t get the love-in with Broadbent. He was ok but not much more than that. Bailey was the man tonight, without question. Noticeably, when he was subbed off, the organisation went with him.

Making lots of subs is always difficult, but we noticeably started chasing about like headless chickens. We still need someone in that boiler room or we’ll get found out.

Lots of good positive things all over the pitch, but the opposition was questionable, it has to be said.

Bailey my motm, despite Hurst doing well in his new position.
Ironside held it all together up top.
Gibson has a touch of class about him.
McGrath definately worth a mention, whilst Olowu had a somewhat inconsistent evening.
Nixon looked rapid after he came on as did Yeboah, I mean grease lightning was left in his wake, but he is a bit raw.

Lots to be pleased about, but that could all change on Saturday (if Boro bring their A game).

Forget about trying to work out how young/inexperienced Hull might have been. They were fit, very good technically but, so we're we and better at it.

That was very impressive from Rovers. The intensity, the quick passing, the understanding, running off the ball, the quality of balls into the box, the finishing were all there to see.

Hurst confirmed he's really showing what a player he can be in the final third. He should be in double figures at least on that showing.

Broadbent. What an improvement. Looks like he might afterall become that player that McCann said he could. For the most part, being very disciplined holding the midfield ground, keeping it simple but also playing a couple of sublime first time passes both long and short.  Pass completion rate must have been high.

Bailey. Given the licence to pick and choose his runs forward because of Broadbent, and those two complimented each other very well. Bailey's finishes tonight were exceptional by their simplicity and timing.

All the new lads look like they have something to offer giving us bags of options. Very hard to pick out our strongest XI.

Overall, the quality of the passing and movement was very good tonight. Every player seemed to know their purpose and put a shift in.

Of course, we will come across more physical opposition including those who'll lump it forward but no reason to believe we can't cope with that too.

A very impressive run out against a poor Hull side. Grant must be very much delighted with that. We kept the intensity up and looked very fit. Sbarra and Yeboah both look like absolute speed merchants. I mistook Sbarra in the warm up for a mascot! He looks about 4'11" and 9 years old. Plays like he's The Flash. I thought him giving the Hull defence a torrid time actually gave Billy some extra space at times. That could be something interesting to keep an eye out for this season.

Jones and Lawlor both on bench, not sure what is happening there. Anderson, Close and Westbrooke out again. Wood on bench, so assume Bailey is playing CB with Olowu?
Still no sign of Harry Clifton

Doesn’t look so bad on the missing quarter but potentially they won’t be starting against Accrington.

McCann said: "I just want to get them back. I think Ben and Harry will be on the grass on Thursday to start their rehab and come back to fitness. Zain is probably a few days after that.

"Tom will have an injection in his back just to settle the pain which I imagine will take a week to ten days to settle down so once they come back we feel like we're strong."
