Season Ticket sales
« on July 25, 2024, 03:29:11 pm by Park Rover »
Collected my season ticket yesterday and was surprised to find out that we have sold less season tickets this season than we did last season what’s wrong with the people of Doncaster? We had a great end to last season and I think we have recruited really well. Come on folks get behind our club and support Grant and the team

Maybe more are buying 5 or 10 game packages. There is usually a late rush as well so maybe some will buy after coming back from holiday.

We're getting conflicting reports here. In another thread, Lincoln Rover, who provides a lot of info for us, and for whom I have the upmost respect, said that the figures are up on last season.

I do believe that the figure was unusually high last season, with the return of GM. Maybe some people aren't as impressed with this season's signings as we are.

Covered a bit in this recent thread.

A few wins starting on 10 August will help but, it does make you wonder. Maybe the Southgate experience put a few people off football during the summer, but now is a great chance for fans to reignite their interest in proper football!!

Right, compared to THIS TIME LAST SEASON, our ST sales are UP.
In the build up to the start the sales increase, especially, I’m advised in the children’s purchases.

We’ve got a meeting of the Shadow Board on Saturday & I hope to be able to update this further.
Sales are Up…

The new game schedule will not suit everyone and the price advantage per game would diminish quickly if work schedule or other matters meant missing games.
The fact more games are being televised could be an attraction also for some not to invest  a large lump sum when individual games could be an advantage.
The last three months of successful football last season  was preceded by two and a half seasons of dross, and the Schofield era especially numbed peoples appetite to go to watch us play and they found other things to do.

I've got one for the first time in 20 years!
Here's hoping for a successful season.

In the next couple of weeks, I expect folk will engage from their footy sabbatical and summer holidays. Our media dept, prominent promoters such as 18Dapper and Chall have yet to show their hands and even John Ryan has been very quiet.

The PR machine should kick into action very soon hopefully.

This has been one of the rare pre-seasons in recent years where Rovers have got the on the pitch stuff right - so from the club's perspective, well anyone's really, its got to be quite disappointing that the sales are teetering close to where they've been for a while.

The donny public do seem to follow success rather than precede it but the club hardly is a PR machine is it.

How many season tickets did JR also help inflate the number last season? Maybe not hundreds but most likely increased the number unlike this year.

I haven’t bought one for 2 reasons, firstly I find it very difficult to sit/stand for any length of time due to an on going medical condition due to the utter shambles of a state our beloved NHS finds itself in and secondly through work commitments (yes I still go otherwise bills don’t get paid) I used to buy ST’s even knowing I wouldn’t see more than half of the home games, now with the 5 & 10 game passes it’s more prudent for me to purchase one of those. I’m sure many are in the same position for various reasons of their own

Hi everyone.
I’ve spoken to the club this evening & here is their response.

Club look at both season ticket sales and season ticket revenue.

Last year total season ticket sales finished at just below 4,500, on this day last year the figure was just around 100 less than the 4,000 mark.  The season was 10 days away (opening game on the 4th August) and John Ryan had also ran his season ticket campaign which inflated numbers.

Figures as of today are pretty much the exact same as this time last year (less than 40 difference year on year).  However, that's despite a JR campaign and there are also a further 6 days to wait before the opening game of the season (10th August) so effectively a further week of sales before the season opener.

The main number of renewals outstanding are kids and they always come in later, after people have had their summer holidays or right before they attend their first game of the season, the £35 kid season ticket doesn't have an early bird so there is no rush to come in, the club still sell season tickets in September.

The club are happy with sales are in terms of numbers, knowing what is still out there to come in and how long there is before the opening game of the season.  They track this year on year and so know when the peaks will happen.

Further positivity can be seen from the season ticket revenue which has already surpassed the revenue achieved last year in full.  As prices didn't go up, this means more adults have bought than previous years, which means some lost fans have reconnected with the club.

Secondly Match Packages (5 and 10 flexi-tickets) have already sold more than double the number of this time last year and those packages literally sell until the last month of the season so plenty of opportunity to grow

A third of games being on sky has changed some people's minds too. Didn't think it would considering firesticks are £30-40 to see every year game already

Thanks for the update Derek.

The following paragraph is encouraging.

"Further positivity can be seen from the season ticket revenue which has already surpassed the revenue achieved last year in full.  As prices didn't go up, this means more adults have bought than previous years, which means some lost fans have reconnected with the club"

As others have said, Inc DVR, there are more falling into this category which is understandable. (All the best with your treatment DVR)

While all clubs will be subject to societal demands, it shows ST sales alone are no longer a true barometer on how attendances might shape up as there will be more walk ups as folk be more selective. This won't be good for wet, cold midweek games though, unless we're top of the league.

Do you know what the split is between adult & concession sales and how much it has changed since last season?

Probably getting a 10 match package ticket.  Can’t get to enough games to justify a st sadly.

Are we surprised that season ticket sales are sluggish after the indifferent results over all of last season . Supporters need to see what’s on offer after too many disappointments and false starts . IMO there are good signs of a great season ahead !!

What's the price difference?

I probably can only make 2/3rds of games, but still renewed my season ticket

£150 vs £275.  No point getting a st for £27.50 per match if I can only go ten times. Cheaper to buy individually..

Slight diversion.  Several posters, I, verbally to friends, commented that there would be 'The Sharp Effect' in increased ST sales. Several people suggested that there would be a modest increase in bums on seats.

Do we feel this has happened?

We might be able to answer that question better after Accrington, unless there's anyone on here who's specifically bought due to Billy?

I don't think anyone expects him to be starting that's the issue. Also last year we weren't in a position where we were already happy with a current striker, that being Ironside. It's probably not a big a deal as last year would have been.

Think I predicted this. It was always going to be total b*llocks to think one player would drive massive season ticket sales. It’s a big commitment for most people and that decision is made on a whole range of factors. It is the marginal fan who would buy a season ticket potentially on the basis of a signing, and imagine the decision making process there - they hadn’t been arsed to buy one to date for various reasons, but yeah, despite all that, I will buy one because a single player who may or not always play, signs up. Totally crackers.

IMO I think signing Sharp was more about showing we are serious about getting out of this league, letting Rowe leave meant we had a shortage of experience of the been there done that kind.

For me Sharp will come of the bench in about 75 percent of the games that he plays in, he may start when ironside or Miller are either injured or need a break from playing week in week out especially over Xmas and during cup games.

Did it sell season tickets by its self probably not but as a whole the team he joined along with the other players that signed nice and early hopefully means we can hit this league early while other teams are still figuring out the best formation or starting 11

Don’t know what the panic is regarding this to be honest, we’ve been told the info from the club as set out above.

What i am wondering is why JR hasn’t been as active this year? He was at it everyday last pre season and like it or not, he still has a lot of influence with the fans from that generation. No doubt he helped push numbers quite a bit higher than they would have been last season. Really looked like he was connecting with the club again.

Would have thought he’d have been all over it this year after the winning run etc
