The rule which states that the linesman doesn’t flag until the offside player becomes active needs changing. There was a through ball by Accy and the striker was clearly miles offside but kept on chasing the ball.TSL ran out of his area and cleared the ball a fraction of a second before there would have been a full on 50/50 tackle. One of the players could have been seriously injured. If the linesman flags as soon as it is obvious that the forward is offside the threat of an accident can be avoided.

A serious injury could have occurred in this instance.I’m not sure what the law is relating to this nowadays as I can’t keep up with law changes anymore. Clearly there is an opportunity to review close offside decisions when VAR is involved, but we don’t have that luxury at Rovers. In this instance, the striker was clearly ‘active’ in chasing after the ball at full speed and that should have been sufficient for the AR to flag him offside far earlier than he did.
