Accy goal
« on August 11, 2024, 09:55:20 am by Ryaldinhio »
Just re watched the highlights. That is really really poor from Sterry. Not glancing round once not even aware of the lad behind him, not concentrating maybe? Saw it soooooo many times last year aswell when man drifting in at back post unchallenged, think it was Crawley manager who said they were targeting us with crosses last yr. Better teams will see that and do the same.

I like Sterry and overall think he had a decent game but that part worries me, should always be aware of what's around you.

Hopefully Grant and Cliff we be on him.

He's OK for this division but if we do get promotion we need better. He's not lg1 standard.

It wasn't just about yesterday Mush, it was a constant theme last season aswell.

Fair enough mate but the thread is titled Accy Goal and I was more commenting on that.
Maxwell barely dangled his toe at stopping the cross.

Sterry and Maxwell two of the first names on the team sheet for me.
Both have been excellent overall in our 12 match run.
Yes they’ll make a mistake, if they didn’t they’d be in the championship

Broadbent just let his man slip by him and he supplied the cross. We hadn’t switched on at all.

Whalley created their goal, their best player by far I thought, even though that’s not saying much.!

They had a bit of luck with the ricochet off Maxwell but from them on it was a quality cross & terrific header , sometimes you've just got to give the opposition credit.

If we are going to play Sterry I think we just have to accept he’ll go to sleep defensively. Happened loads last season and again yesterday. He’s not suddenly going to improve at this age. He’ll already have Wood and the keeper shouting at him to focus and obviously he can’t do it. Good offensively though.

It's game one FFS even premier league full backs make mistakes, what does it matter if we are scoring one or two goals more than the other team, let's enjoy the ride and not pick apart every little mistake

This forum is for comment. We can all take pleasure from success, but it would be boring for most of us if we didn’t make judgements and share opinions on individual performances too.

Surely these are comments and conversations shared with mates in the pub before a match?
This is just a virtual extension of that.

I dare say that if we had scored that goal our fans would have been celebrating the quality of the cross and praising the scorer for getting behind the defender.

We were still in the dressing room, it was the kick up the arse we needed

It was a poor goal to concede all round but gave them all a kick up the backside. We need to stay switched on

Sterry was faffing about with his hair band just before the goal. Concentrate on the game instead.

They had two attempts at the same move, one was minutes before the goal and we cleared just! But to be done by the same move within minutes is poor. The fact they did it twice suggests they planned it as a way that we concede a few.

GM needs to remind them that there are 45 minutes to play in the 2nd half, not 35. We didn't come out of the dressing room for 10 minutes.

They were always going to score in that period. As soon as the goal went in, our players started clapping their hands and geeing each other up, then we took command again.

It wasn't a recurring problem last year all season with Sterry or Maxwell especially the first half of the season, they didn't play that often through injury, part of a long list at the time right to the end of January anybody got a game who was training during the week.
If memory serves me right that is ten wins in eleven league games  the only loss being in the play offs not a league game and a draw at Colchester in the league, how can anybody criticise, just enjoy while it lasts.
Even top top sides have the odd collective weaknesses, its why the game is so great, if not it would be very boring.

I think new May see some high scoring games this season, a little like Newcastle we’re under Keegan, winning games 4-3 !

We won 4-1 at Colchester mate.
The draw was at Gillingham in the last league match.

Correct, mate. Also, it's now 11 wins from 12 league matches.

We were cheated in the Gillingham game. Robbed by officials either inept or incompetent.

I did wonder about that watching the goal as his hair seemed to not be in the usual tidy man-bun. I wondered if the attacker had a bit of a wrestle with him!

Now, Richard Wood. There’s a haircut you could set your watch to!

The quality of our goals were very good, the last one from Sharp, a proper strikers goal, in the six yard box in space, an awkward height, fantastic athleticism and timing of a swivel and getting over  the ball for the perfect volley and strike that gave defenders no chance.
You cannot teach that, its the signs of a proper predator in front of goal.
Add that to two great strikes from distance to finish good team work passing movements, and it shows confidence in their ability to execute the moves.
Long may it continue we were class in front of goal.

He was near me at the time. Hair band came off during play so he played without it for about a minute (with it on his wrist I guess). But he was probably thinking ‘ooh gotta get me hair band back on soon’. Then goal goes in. Hair band back on.

Every manager will now say get into Sterry early doors and nick that hair band.

Number 1 back and sides for all members of the squad please.
