I had a look at the final Division four table for that 1964/65 season and by my reckoning 16 of the 24 teams have either been out of the league and got back in or are still out of the Football League.

I think I make it 20 Hound, with only Brighton, Millwall, Crewe, and Bradford City being continuous league members since then

I won’t disagree with that Dutch.
I didn’t check anywhere but just went from my own memory.
There were some I wasn’t sure about and I bow to your superior knowledge.

His goal on Tuesday reminded me of El Fenomeno's most famous goal.

Alreight, I'm stretching it. But to be fair, Sharp IS twice the age that Ronaldo was back then.

Just strengthens your suggested  point about volatility in the bottom division since automatic promotion from the conference replaced the annual 'turkeys voting for Christmas' re-election charade

The "Old pals act" of that era was somewhat geographically based. Workington and Gateshead certainly lost their status seemingly for that reason, possibly Barrow too and Crewe benefited from it several times. They were conspicuously bad, yet got back time and again.
