Looks as fit now as he ever has done. He is everything you want in a striker.

Love how he sent those two defenders for a hot dog.

Think their number 16 is still trying to turnaround now!

Exactly this, watch the goal with this in mind, you can almost hear the kids complain "But dad, you said you was going to take it easy on us! I'm telling mam".

I thought those types of goals, going in from 30 yards out, might have been behind him now, but on that evidence he looks as Sharp and composed as ever.

Hope Ironside gets off the mark soon before Billy hogs all the limelight.

Note that McCann said in his interview he had a bit of a word in Ironsides ear after bringing him off on Saturday, pointing out the part he played even by not scoring. Ironside is definitely McCann's man and I hope we can accommodate and keep both players happy, they do offer slightly different attributes and we can deploy them tactically and swap them when needed.

We've got no business having Sharp in this division even at this stage of his career, he's still head and shoulders above from what I have seen, and its only the credit that we built up with his history (plus the proximity to his home in Sheffield i'll warrant!) that has enabled this deal to come together. What better way to spend the twilight of his career than driving DRFC back to where he left us.

Said it earlier on and I will say it again. He will be the difference in the tight games. Master stroke bringing him back. No other team in this league has a striker of his quality.

We would like to think we have the TWO best strikers in the division, supported by the best TWO wide men in the division in Molyneux and Gibson (Or Hurst) .

Made this point to my Dad whilst walking away from the ground on Saturday. Ironside did so much without adding a goal, then Billy comes on and scores. We're really lucky to have both. If Ironside continues to do the main work over 70 minutes and then Sharp comes on at the end, that will do for me.

Even if Joe Ironside does not score he is still the main man for me.
Would not swap him for anyone else playing in this league. No one.

Joe is the cake. Billy is the icing on the top.

I still think Ironside will score 15 this season but whatever he will have done the work on the pitch for 65 mins which will have run opposing defences ragged.
Billy just comes on against tired legs and finishes the job.
Master stroke.
Keep these 2 guys fit along with Molly and Gibson and we could get 100 points this season and 90 goals.
Yes i know I am getting giddy but it’s great fun being this giddy.

Is it possible we could have 3 players with 20 goals this season?
I don’t think it’s impossible, unlikely maybe.
I do think we will have 4 players in double figures just in the League.

When was the last team to have 3 with 20+ then. I think that’s extremely rare.

One for DU or any other Statto

It’s a squad that gets promotion, not a team.

For years we have struggled to even get a competitive team. We now have a whole squad of competitive players. This is a good time to be supporting Rovers.

Totally agree CR Joe is critical to our team, it’s quite sometime since we had that type of player. Similar to Chris brown where he didn’t always score, but other would due to his work rate in games. Joe didn’t seem too pleased at being taken off on Saturday, however it’s good to see we can take him off to given him a rest, he can’t keep getting battered for 90 mins for every game.
Seems like grant spoke to him straight away and has stated he considers we have the best two strikers in the league.

The team I always remember was Chester and their remarkable forward line in 1964-65. That was in the days of the WM or 2-3-5 formation with a centre-forward, two inside forwards and two wingers. That was the season Alick was top scorer in the whole country in the FL (36) and in all competitions (39)

Four of the Chester front 5 scored 20+ in the League, and all five scored 20+ in all competitions (only FA and FL Cups in those days). Their utter domination of the club's scoring charts was quite extraordinary:

League: Talbot 28, Metcalf 27, Morris 24, Ryden 20, Humes 17, Corbishley 1, Durie 1, Hauser 1 (Total 119)

All Comps: Metcalf 37, Talbot 35, Morris 26, Ryden 20, Humes 20, Corbishley 1, Durie 1, Hauser 1 (Total 141)

Unfortunately for them, their defence conceded 81 goals in the league and they finished only eighth in Division 4, just one place above Rovers.

Edit: I recall that during that season Gary Talbot also worked as a freelance photographer for one of the main national newspapers - The Daily Mail I think.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Talbot

Final Edit: There is a link in the references at the bottom Talbot's wiki page to our very own James Hayter  :)

(Also Talbot corrected to 28 league goals)

Don’t disagree CBcb
Just saying though those front players will win this league for us. Simply the  no of goals we score this season.

DU that was quick. Ever tried running the 100 metres.  :)

That’s some record Chester had then that season. 4 players on 20 +
Will that ever be be equalled. Unlikely I would suggest.

Thanks DU for info.

Not saying it was the last time Camps, it is just that Chester and their goalscorers left an indelible mark on me that season, including an exciting but lethal 4-1 win at Belle Vue on a rainsoaked evening

Edit: As far as Rovers go, unsurprsingly the nearest we came to three players with 20+ goals is 1946-47:

Clarrie Jordan          42 (44 incl FA Cup)
Paul Todd                 23 (26 incl FA Cup)
Ralph Maddison        17 (18 incl FA Cup)

Some sources had Todd with 27 league goals but 26 is now accepted by JC and the Club (nearly wrote Sunshine Band there )

I had a look at the final Division four table for that 1964/65 season and by my reckoning 16 of the 24 teams have either been out of the league and got back in or are still out of the Football League.

I think I make it 20 Hound, with only Brighton, Millwall, Crewe, and Bradford City being continuous league members since then
