By my reconing last nite, 8 shots on target, 8 goals conceded. Did lawler have any chance with any of them, who knows? would timmy/teddy have done any better? who knows?.  The fact of the matter is we are conceding a decent amount of goals verus the ratio of shots against us.. For me, a new keeper in january....

Let’s have some realism. We are in league 2. The calibre of keeper we can responsibly expect to attract isn’t going to be vastly better than what we have. All keepers playing at this level are going to have some faults in their game. I think there’s value in sticking TSL for now, he hasn’t really done too much wrong. IF we are certain there is something better available in January then it could be an option, but the likelihood is that it will be a loan in the same mould as TSL (young loan keeper from an academy), or a 3rd choice keeper at a championship club that a club is willing to loan out.

You are probably trading off at this level - either a guy who keeps the ball out but can't use his feet other than for standing on, or a guy who can play as a sweeper but can't keep the ball out. I think Grant prefers the latter typically. We certainly in League Two are not going to get both attributes in the same player.

I don't think the keeper situation is the source of our defensive issues. Neither have been at fault for the goals we've conceded, certainly not enough to change the results. Our issues are further up the pitch, giving the ball away cheaply, being beaten to balls into the box plus, as with last night, not managing the game by poor decision making.

That all said, we're not exactly in a bad position are we?

Lawlor threw himself the right way 4 times last night during the penalty shoot out, but didn’t put his arms out, or together to try and make the save?

He has the height, weight, width to be a competent keeper, but he’s just rubbish

Agree with this. A couple of times last night he looked as though his arms were nowhere near fully extended. Find it hard to believe that professional keeper can’t be arsed but it definitely didn’t look like there was 100% belief that he was going to save any of the penalties

It’s pathetic.
You’ll never be satisfied unless someone saves every single shot on our goal for the rest of time.
In the last 30 years I can only think of Sullivan, Dieng, Johnstone and TLT that have escaped your misguided wrath. And guess what, they were all from teams above us. 3 of them we could never expect to sign.

For young lads, the MU penalties were very,very good, hard hits hitting the inside side netting.
Lawler and TSL have a lot to prove still as keepers but so do the rest of the team, as we are told we are apparently only at 30%
But give them a break please.

We threw it away and MU gobbled us up.

Mitchell's pen stats are amazing! Surprised Sully didn't save more - always seemed an intimidating character between the sticks. I always think we're a bit harsh on our keepers, Teddy and Lawlor decent at this level. Balcombe saved both his pens in the one game - Lincoln away in the no-fans era! Although he did give one of them away with the rashest bit of goalkeeping ever!

Ted is a very good sweeper keeper.

That’s more important than someone who is rubbish at everything but shot-stopping if you’re going to be a top team where the goalie isn’t expected to be tested much in that way.
