Joe Ironside.
« on October 19, 2024, 05:09:57 pm by Usher wide. »
Joe has waited his time knowing he wouldn’t get the minutes in he had last season & for a forward that’s difficult.

But today, especially first half playing alongside Billy, he won his fair share of headers knocking the ball into spaces for forward players to latch onto.

He always has known as a ‘slight forward’ how to look after the ball & get himself in front of the defender in order to ‘win’ the free kick when called for.

But THAT penalty in the 93rd minute to win the game when as a number 9 you’ve yet to get on the score sheet c’mon.

Pressure? What pressure!

What a man.

He won a lot of headers today… I think he and Billy might be a good partnership given time. Big Bren and Kitch 2.0, although Bren was a bigger unit than Joe.

Delighted Joe stuck that one away

Don't get the people who are quick to knock Joe on here,  must be the same ones who were quick to slag Marquis off. Joe's goal tally last season speaks for itself but he offers much more than just goals.

It might be controversial, but I think it’s Ironside OR Sharp! We need that 3rd striker in January.

Praise goes to Maxwell who held the ball after the penalty was awarded to give Joe time to compose himself & then when Ironside was ready Maxwell handed him the ball & we know what happened next. RTID.

Joe was outstanding today, worked his socks off, won a shed load of duals in the air.
And if i remeber right it was him who didnt give up and won us the free kick in the corner when the game was into added time.

The guy doesnt give up and he doesnt sulk and throw his arms around when things dont go his way. Just gets on with it

Yes, I listened to the Swindon commentary which, was  excellent BTW and they were convinced Maxwell was taking it, we all knew better though

There is not one centre forward I would swop Joe Ironside for in this league and that includes Cook at Bradford.
That was a pressure penalty for both the team and himself
Fantastic penalty

That was very clever from Maxwell as 2 of their players were in his ear trying to put him off while Joe composed himself out of ear shot.
Brilliant

Noticed that, if it was intended, it’s very clever, Keepers thinking, not seen him take a pen… quite a distraction.
Just seen a photo on X re the first goal. Ironside is basically forcing the 2 defenders forward who are just in front of Olowu as he nips in to head home the first goal. Again if that’s intended it’s very clever.
Olowu and McGrath very very good today.

Still surprised we didn't look at Max Biammo, not seen anything on him getting signed yet....

We are not going to have two strikers on the bench. We are also not going to start with two strikers very often.

Very good player, but by all accounts a poor injury record.

I agree Alan. If it’s a front 2, one needs to be quicker than Joe or Billy to partner one of them. That could be Molyneux at times. Yeboah unused sub again. Can’t see Bristol City being happy with that. If he goes back we need another option who can play wing or striker.

The boys are obviously aware of the psychology of penalties. For those interested take a read of the work by Geir Jordet

Maxwell intentionally took the pressure off Joe by taking the ball. Jordan Henderson used to use similar tactics

Lots of teams do it now, send a man in to protest the spot and stop the other team ragging it up, they keep the ball to prevent further delays and so the taker isn’t walking up to the spot on their own. Their keeper will have known who was taking it.

Totally agree with this post. Joe is also a really nice guy and I just hope he gets more game time.
For me a back 3 does work, and if we maxwell on left mid he has the energy to get back into defensive mode when needed. He definitely made a difference when he came on and for me he is more consistent than josh.

I wasn’t at the game so I didn’t know that, thanks for sharing Branton and well spotted.

That is class from Maxwell.
